Only slightly below? Really?

Yup. Winning 3-4 games in a row against conference opponents on a neutral floor is a big deal.

I saw Dayton was 76 which is laughable if AU is 80

Dayton has a pretty rich history. Doctor friend of mine played on FF team there.

Yup, only thing in comparison that AU has going for them is AU is in a bigger conference

I'd like to see a ranking that assigns points to NCAA titles, runners-up, Final Fours, Elite 8s, and Sweet 16s. Something like this:
Ask and you shall receive sweet prince

quote:

SEC Tournament Title (or other league post-1933) = 2 points
SEC Regular Season Title (or other league post-1933) = 2 points
NCAA Tournament Appearance = 1 point
NCAA Sweet 16 = 3 points
NCAA Elite 8 = 5 points
Final Four = 10 points
National Title = 20 points

1. Kentucky (843 pts)
2. Arkansas (220 pts)
3. Florida (205 pts)
4. LSU (142 pts)
5. Missouri (108 pts)
6. Alabama (75 pts)
7. Tennessee (72 pts)
8. Mississippi St (52 pts)
9. Georgia (45 pts)
9. Texas A&M (45 pts)
11. Vanderbilt (44 pts)
12. Auburn (31 pts)
13. South Carolina (29 pts)
14. Ole Miss (15 pts)

I don't disagree with your final assessment but you left off SEC Tournament Championships, which pretty clearly shows the prism you view this through.

I don't disagree with your SEC Tournament Championship metric, which I DID leave off but definitely should have included.

Alabama does have more SEC Tournament Championships than LSU. That does count for something.

And I am totally not disagreeing that Alabama should be in the top 30, or at worst top 35.

However, LSU should also be at least in that vicinity as they better in all the other metrics.

Sorry maybe I shouldn't have compared LSU only to Alabama, but to others in the say...28-35 range.

But....47th ???? Really ?????

According to that metric I think we should be tied with Vandy now.

Nope, not outside factors like other conference titles though.

A much better indicator would be NCAA tournament wins too.

LSU basically goes to the Final Four or bombs out. They've been to 4 Final Fours and only have slight leads on Alabama, Mizzou and Tennessee who have been to none (and only 1 Elite 8 each).

LSU has punched their ticket while Tennessee and Alabama have repeatedly blown it in the Sweet 16.

Ya, that really says a lot. I would have thought they were somewhere in the low 30s.

Are we the highest (Football/Basketball) combined team or is it UCLA?

Given how many of Florida's wins have been in the last 20 years, I think we might be a fringe Top 5 team since 2000- Duke, UNC, KU and UK I'd put over Florida but then its what UF, UConn and MSU those three seem really close

It is a bit misleading as there are many more games now than there were even in 1985.

If you were good recently you get at least 1 extra win per tournament.

What a dumb list. CBB is a tournament sport. Teams are put together with the intent of being able to win in a tournament format at the end of the year. Any measurement that doesn't take into account tournament results is useless.
