Right. No doubt Mizzouri has been more consistent (8 more tournament appearances I think?), but I wouldn't trade for even the 2006 FF run I got to experience. Alabama is more consistent, but I think LSU still actually has one more tournament appearance than Alabama. why the gap between the two is that large is a joke. LSU behind Tennessee and Vanderbilt is a laugh riot

I think this says it all:

NCAA Tourney Appearances
Alabama 19 (+ 1 vacated)
LSU 21

FINAL FOURS
Alabama 0
LSU 4

ELITE EIGHTS
Alabama 1
LSU 6

SWEET SIXTEENS
Alabama 7 (+ 1 vacated)
LSU 9

SEC Reg. Season Titles
Alabama 7
LSU 11

Hall of Fame Members
Alabama 1 ?
LSU 3 Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich, Shaquille O'Neal

I have no phucking clue what they were thinking.
If bama is #30 according to them, then LSU should at least be in the top 30 also.

I needed a good laugh today.

Thanks AP...

I don't disagree with your final assessment but you left off SEC Tournament Championships, which pretty clearly shows the prism you view this through.

Me and you are boys. However, I honestly dont think tournament titles really matter in Basketball and Baseball. Yes, I realize it decides post seasons bids in both, but I dont think they matter at all for historical purposes

LSU has a better history than Mizzou when they're good. I'd rank your program above ours.

Arkansas as well.

This is ridiculous. I'd put it slightly below conference regular season. But it's not nothing.

Duke at 3 makes this list shite. It says of all time so ucla should clearly be 1 and duke has only been relevant since coach k.

I mean, he's been there since 1980

I'm sure its been discussed by now, but I'm just now clicking on this thread. Is this a joke?

National Championships:
1- Arkansas
0- Alabama

National Championship Game Appearances:
2- Arkansas
0- Alabama

Final Four Appearances:
6- Arkansas
0- Alabama

Elite 8 Appearances:
10- Arkansas
1- Alabama

Sweet 16 Appearances:
11- Arkansas
7- Alabama

Total NCAA Tournament Appearances:
31- Arkansas
19- Alabama

Obviously there is no comparison. Even if you disregard Tournament success altogether... which is ridiculous considering its the only thing in college basketball that really matters... even still, Arkansas comes out ahead.

Final AP Top 25 appearances:
16- Arkansas
15- Alabama

Avg. Final Ranking (for the years they finished ranked):
#10.6- Arkansas
#13.6- Alabama

Honestly those stats right there prove the AP is a stupid metric for basketball. But to have Arkansas behind both Missouri and Alabama completely renders this ranking absolute garbage.

It's based on time spent being ranked and ranked #1. I didn't realize that at first either, based on their misleading headline

I don't have much of a problem with Alabama being #30... though that's probably too high... my issue is Arkansas only being #31. They are a Top 25 program IMO.

Bama should probably be around #40. But the real issue is Arkansas coming in so low at #31.

Maybe so. But that's just a stupid way to rank programs in a sport like Basketball. They would have been better off not putting out the list in the first place.

I'd like to see a ranking that assigns points to NCAA titles, runners-up, Final Fours, Elite 8s, and Sweet 16s. Something like this:

NCAA title - 10 points
runner up - 8 points
Final Four - 6 points
Elite 8 - 4 points
Sweet 16 - 2 points

1. Kentucky: 446
2. Arkansas: 116
2. Florida: 116
4. LSU: 66
