Missouri gets the nod over Tennessee and Alabama IMO for their appearances in the elite 8.

Tennessee and Alabama are almost mirror images in terms of men's basketball.

Elite 8 appearances
Alabama- 1
Tennessee-1

Sweet 16s
Alabama- 8
Tennessee- 7

NCAAT appearances
Alabama- 20
Tennessee- 20

Conference tournament championships
Alabama- 6
Tennessee- 4

Conference regular season championships
Alabama- 7
Tennessee- 9

Head-to-head record
Alabama leads 77-66

Overall, yeah Alabama is behind Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, LSU, and Missouri.

The fact that an Auburn fan made this thread is also laughable. Alabama is 90-59 all time vs Auburn in basketball and has as many sweet 16 appearances as they do total NCAAT appearances. Baseball also owns the all time record and has had more success.

We've done a lot of good things in this conference in Basketball and Baseball but clearly not as much as others

But we're the going away best of the best in football - we've lapped all of your teams

good thing none of your schools put too much emphasis on football, right guys?

It's been proven Football is King in the SEC.

Basketball/Baseball occupy our attention while we wait for Football to commence.

by listing all-time SEC wins as the measuring stick of success for both basketball and baseball when that means absolutely nothing.

Can you read?

ALL TIME OVERALL WINS.

Not SEC wins.

Bama ranks #1 in the SEC in all time overall wins in Baseball.

Bama ranks #3 in the SEC in basketball all time overall wins.

I'm not sure why reading comprehension is so hard. It's pretty silly to be so dismissive of that. Of course, post season play is most important, but all time wins is a fine measuring stick for the overall sustained success of a program over time.

Bottomline is that Alabama has the 7th best basketball program in the SEC

Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, LSU and Missouri are definitely ahead of us. No arguments.

We are basically dead even with Tennessee for 6th/7th.

So again with baseball, Alabama is certainly at best in the middle-of-the-pack, yet your immediate response to the OP tried to imply that Bama was in the Top 3.

We have also finished runner-up twice and been in the Final Four of the tournament 3 times.

In terms of NCAA Tournament apperances we rank 7th in the league (23).

We are 2nd in SEC Regular Season Titles (14) and T2 in SEC Tournament Titles (7).

We have been historically competitive, upper echelon in the SEC programs in basketball and baseball.

This is what I'm talking about. Bama fans constantly spew these types of things when the facts don't back it up. Bama is not "upper echelon" in the SEC in either of those sports.

quote:

Basketball - #5-8 (behind Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, LSU; in a grouping with Tennessee, Missouri)

Okay. This is about right. But since when does being somewhere around #6 or #7 in a 14-team league make you "upper echelon" ?

As for basketball, Kentucky is obviously way out from at #1 all-time.
Arkansas and Florida follow up in the #2 and #3 spots. Arkansas has had fewer hard times than Florida, but Florida has one more national title. I'd probably go with the Hogs at #2 but I could understand Florida fans claiming the #2 spot.

LSU is clearly #4 in the SEC, with 21 trips to the NCAA Tournament and four Final 4 appearances.

Missouri is clearly #5. With 25 NCAA Tournament appearances, that gives them 4 more than even LSU. But Mizzou lacks a Final Four. They do have four trips to the Elite 8 though.

As for #6, its pretty much a tie between Alabama and Tennessee. They have the same number of trips to the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16. Tennessee has one more NCAA tournament bid. Because of that, I'd probably put the Vols #6 and Bama #7, but we're talking razor-thin separation here.

quote:

Baseball - #4-8 (behind Florida, LSU, South Carolina; in a grouping with Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss)

There's a pretty big difference between #4 and #8 in a 14-team league.

LSU is obviously #1.
South Carolina is obviously #2.

Those two programs have the most trips to Omaha, and they are the only two programs with multiple National Titles.

Florida and Mississippi State are certainly #s 3 and 4. They each have 9 trips to the CWS.

Georgia, Missouri, and Arkansas would be next in line. Georgia and Mizzou each have 6 CWS appearances and a National Title. Arkansas has 8 trips to Omaha but lacks a National Title.

This puts Bama at best #8, but I think with a National Title under their belt, a strong argument can be made that Vandy has passed Bama as well. So that drops Bama to #9.

I have a very hard time seeing how you can claim that Bama is "upper echelon" in the SEC in both basketball and baseball when Bama probably ranks #7 and #9 all-time in the league in those two sports. There are just 14 teams. How is being #7 or #9 "upper echelon" ?

Georgia fans didn't jump into this thread and start claiming to be "Top 2 or 3" or "upper echelon" in both basketball and baseball when we are clearly not. Multiple bama fans did just that. As they historically tend to do for some reason.

Ranking #1 in baseball in the conference ALL TIME OVERALL WINS and #3 in basketball in the conference in ALL TIME OVERALL WINS puts us in the "upper echelon" of both sports.

Being completely dismissive of our all time overall wins is pretty silly.

I always have thought of the top 1/3 of the leage as upper echelon, though you could argue we are in the middle if that makes you feel better?

I mean, alright.

Georgia has been to 13 NCAA Tournaments. Alabama has been to 23.

Georgia has 6 SEC Championships. Alabama has 14.

Georgia has 0 SEC Tournament Titles. Alabama has 7.

Georgia has 6 CWS appearances. Alabama has 5.

Georgia has 1 National Title. Alabama has 0.

Alabama leads the all-time series 70-68-2.

I will agree that Missouri has a very solid baseball history. Almost all of it is in the 1950s-1960s, but it is there and it is part of their history.

U know a hell of a lot of those Alabama wins in both baseball and basketball are the Southern Mississippi's of the world.

Yes. Why don't you ask LSU baseball fans if they would prefer your 14 extra wins (out of around 2,500 total) to their 17 trips to Omaha and 6 national titles? Then we'll find out who is being "pretty silly."

I think that everyone agrees postseason success carries a greater value than a few more wins, but the idea that overall wins don't matter at all is silly.

If that is the case, basically the entire SEC outside of Alabama has some serious crappy football history considering the very small number of national titles they have.

LSU - 3
Florida - 3
Tennessee - 2
Auburn - 1
Georgia - 1
Texas A&M - 1

A bunch of wins with nothing to show for it.

The Crimson Tide baseball team leads the SEC in all-time wins with over 2,300 victories.[2] The program trails only LSU for the most SEC regular season titles with 13 and 7 tournament championships (giving the program 14 overall SEC championships). The Crimson Tide have also had over sixty players make it to the major leagues, the most in the SEC.

We also have a commanding lead in head to head record vs. LSU.

I'd say that's "Upper echelon" of the SEC.

quote:

The program has a history of being among the best of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In the conference it trails only Arkansas and long-time basketball powerhouse Kentucky in basketball wins and SEC tournament titles, and is third behind Kentucky and LSU in SEC regular season conference titles.

The only two programs in the SEC with winning head to head records vs Bama are Arkansas and Kentucky.

Football top 6

Basketball 9-14

baseball 8-14

Doesn't change the fact Bama fans have no right to talk bad about anyone's baseball or basketball teams.

So you admit you wasted two full page posts arguing around a premise that was completely wrong - assuming I was talking about SEC wins?

Our overall wins in both sports easily places us in the "upper echelon" of the conference. To suggest otherwise is very, very silly.
