but basketball has a much harder post season.

Yeah the tournament is entertaining for fans but it's a lousy way to crown a champion. If only each round was a best of series like in the NBA.

Kentucky is also #1 in the majority of stats when it comes to basketball historically, and the ones were not #1 in we're usually number 2(8 titles vs UCLA's 11 sticks out). It's a good question.

I give the nod to Bama. After watching their delirious fans sprint across the field at autograph (or whatever) day, they are the winner. Any program that can create that level of wackitude is #1.

The only thing Bama fans have to stake a claim is their made up NCs.

So I guess you won't be claiming that 1950 national title in football anymore.

Get your titles up, boss. Cal hasn't won but one with what seems to be an endless supply of NBA talent

Made up?

AP Poll Titles
10 - Alabama
8 - Notre Dame
7 - Oklahoma
5 - Miami
5 - Ohio State
4 - Nebraska
4 - Minnesota
3 - Florida
3 - Florida State
3 - Texas

We have the most national championships of anyone in the country. That fact is not debatable.

It's close. I'd give the edge to us though since we have the most titles (just sticking to AP/Coaches/BCS/CFP so no one gets their panties in a wad) while they're still #2 to UCLA.

Google Sam Gilbert, then get back to me.

Also, do you consider the New England Patriots to be the best NFL franchise because of the decade they've had? UCLA hasn't been shite since Wooden and his cheating ways, and they weren't before it.

Kentucky basketball and its not even close.

Look at what percentage of all SEC Championships Kentucky can claim in basketball and then compare it to the percentage of all SEC Football Championships bama can claim.

It's not close.

as has been stated, it is much harder to win a title in basketball than it is in football. the tournament format of basketball is not a good way to determine a national champion. it's just more entertaining. Kentucky, however, has 46 conference titles. Everyone else in the conference combined has 49.

Off night or injury and you go home. You have to do that 6 times in a two week period. In football you have maybe 4 tough regular season games and now two post season. Plus you can lose one of the regular season games.

National championships is the category that matters and you are behind UCLA.

In Football Bama is in front of everyone.

Sorry.

UCLA has made a final four every single decade since wooden started and is just 8 years removed from a run of three straight

Well Historically the SEC as a whole is a lot better in football than in Basketball, so this is meaningless.

Alabama football has been ranked in the AP Top 25 during 743 total weeks (67.4% of all releases).

Kentucky basketball has been ranked in the AP Top 10 during 661 total weeks (58.9% of all releases).
Alabama football has been ranked in the AP Top 10 during 502 total weeks (46.6% of all releases).

Kentucky basketball has been ranked AP #1 during 122 total weeks (10.9% of all releases).

No. They've had an incredible run the past 15 years (especially with the hard salary cap and all) but aren't even close to being #1 in titles.

Kentucky has spent over 100 weeks alone just ranked #1 in the AP poll since it's inception. We are far ahead of them in that as well, though you'd have to go to Jon Scott's page to do the math.
