It seems like Nebraska happened to have a county by county scholarship program to the University of Nebraska, so basically the best football player from each county in Nebraska essentially got an academic scholarship and was a walk-on to the football team.

Sure, he's new and unknown. But he is also like the best possible scenario. Saban, Gruden, Harbaugh, Shaw etc would have been much sexier hires for texas.

They were always going to get a good coach, Charlie Strong is about as low on the good coach totem pole as you can get.

Strong is a win for A&M because he's not one of those super top tier guys.

Well... considering that it is now all over Austin radio that Strong announced to the team that none of them are allowed to live off campus anymore, which is a rule that no other major college team has and will keep them from embezzling the left-over portion of their housing stipend after going in togther on a super cheap crash pad (and put them in Jester with regular students), among other draconian new rules, NO I am not worried about Strong. He's going to run off a few talented guys at thin positions, make everyone hate him, go 6-6 next year, fail to slow A&M recruiting momentum, and be unable to compete with Sumlin for blue chips since Summy don't give a DAMN where you live or of you have ear rings.

We won more conference championships than Texas and SMU put together. Nice try.

Well, since Jackie Sherrill arrived:

Texas A&M: 1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998
Texas: 1990, 1994(shared), 1995, 1996, 2005, 2009
SMU: 1984(shared)

By my math, 7 = 6 + 1. If you only count outright titles, 7 > 5.

I forgot. A&M has no history pre-Jackie. You win.

Part of Mack Brown's "control the message" game is that he had high school coaches in the state so under his grip that they all feared if they pissed off Brown then Mack would use his political influence to get them fired.

I would like for you to list some examples of this. Name of schools and coaches please.

As far as I know no HS coaches have been fired because of Mack Brown. I think it was all a show, tied back to his aggressive posturing as a speaker at a Texas High School Coaches Association convention.

I mean the idea he could get people fired is wacky to me, but that doesn't mean some HS coaches didn't imply it.

Strong is currently in a bad spot. He came on late in the recruiting battles and then lost some precious few players he could ill afford to lose. Couple that with Red kicking him in the nuts on the radio and the seeds of discontent are sewn.

I think he's a good coach and a good enough recruiter. I think the horn fan on the street also believes that but Red clearly does not and he has a posse of old rich guys behind him.

Strong will have to win and win early and convincingly both on the field and in getting his recruiting net yielding big fish.

The deck is stacked against him initially and the negative inertia will be tough to overcome.

I personally wouldn't mind a civil war amongst their fans.
