Ok fine. We can add historic football bottom dweller USCjr to the small list of programs that actually care about college baseball.

The end.

if alabama had won on the level lsu did in the 90s, there's no doubt they'd care about it too. this is a ridiculous argument.

LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Mississippi State all care about baseball

Texas A&M and Kentucky sorta care too when they're winning. At least based on this board

Typical post from him. I'll bet he's a laugh riot at parties.

Alabama must care enough too, considering they're investing 30 million into a renovation of their baseball facilities.

I can't, nor would I, speak for my maroon buddies (I know some Ag posters here don't like baseball), but traditionally we've very much cared about baseball.
We just happen to have a coach right now who can't get us over the good to great hump.
And it's frustrating.
But yes, baseball is big in Aggieland.

You would have thought Alabama cared about baseball halfway through sec play

So in LSU's best sport, they are still 2nd at best in the SEC at the sport. Good to know.

So Arkansas has more than 25 national championships in women's track and field? Because I thought they had zero...that's what I thought.

"Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America"

That's like saying the United States was the fastest growing country in the early 1800s.

I think baseball is literally the last sport we have that is getting a renovation. I know football, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, softball, track and field, rowing, soccer, and tennis have all had somewhat recent renovations. We saved baseball for last.

College baseball is definitely a niche sport. Always will be popular at LSU and several other SEC schools, Texas and a couple of Big 12 schools. Then a few enclaves here and there (Oregon state, Fullerton and the like).

The problem is the general public knows that these are players that, for the most part, could not make a minor league pro team. Of course there are guys who choose college or develop into pro caliber players but those cases are rare in the big scheme of things.

Au contraire...

Alabama Aquatics Center

No flame, since LSU is no better, and arguably worse...

It may not be nice, but I still think it had a renovation within the last 10 years.

highly doubt you spent 30 million on any of those, maybe not even that much combined on those other sports. you saved baseball for last because 30 million is a lot of money. and regardless, what difference does that make? you don't spend 30 million on a sport you don't care about. just stop.

Ours just finished one. Didn't make it nicer. Was mostly just resealing the concrete.

There's a lot of speculation about what projects the next round of TAF improvements will include. We know a new sand volleyball stadium will be one of the projects, since the team currently plays off campus at a bar with beach courts, Mango's. Edit: LSU will build/renovate the new sand volleyball facility sometime in the fall.

LSU will probably end up renovating the current tennis facility for sand volleyball. Doesn't seem as if it would take a lot of money to convert W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium into a sand volleyball facility.

I believe the holdup there is waiting on the new tennis facility to be completed before beginning renovations on the old one.

After all, the tennis players still need a place to train.

There's also a lot of speculation that Alex Box Stadium will get expanded, in order to add 6-8 more suites. After that, a lot of fans are hoping that LSU addresses the need for a new swimming facility.

I guess we'll see. Probably be around 2016 or 2017 before we find out.

And to get this thread back on track, let's talk dollars and sense. Not putting money into baseball is leaving a lot of money on the table that your university could use.

I really don't understand why people can't wrap their mind it around it. College baseball isn't popular nationwide but it is popular in much of the SEC. That's it. End of story.

You guys are getting worse than the soccer fans vs football fans on the MSB before soccer got it's own board.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America. Give it a few years.

updated 05.23.2014 at 6:51 p.m.

"Despite efforts by the NCAA and the Baltimore Ravens to spike ticket sales for the college men's lacrosse championship weekend, attendance figures are expected to be flat versus last year, according to event officials.

As of Friday morning, about 70,000 tickets had been sold for the three-day event at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium, which with walk-up sales would put it on pace to match last year's 79,179 in Philadelphia. It's a far cry from the record 123,225 fans that flocked to Baltimore in 2007. Attendance has declined every year since."
