By your logic playoffs in all sports shouldn't exist because anyone can beat anyone right?

Are you seriously this fricking stupid?

What? The ACC title game would put UNC on the line, the SEC title game would have given Florida a chance, Stanford vs USC would still mean something too

LSU lost to Arkansas in 2007
Bama lost to Ole Miss this season
Ohio State won the title
Florida lost to Ole Miss in 2008

What's your point?

I think the 4 in earned it this year.

If you go to 8, then somebody wants 16, etc.

4 is fine.

The number of teams needed in the playoffs is directly proportional to a specific Fanbases team and where they reside in the rankings.

It certainly did not prove that. What it proved is that if you play a football game you can lose a football game. That is all. The #10 team could have beaten bama, which would mean what exactly? Should ole miss be in the finals now because theu beat bama?

But the beauty of CFB is that #10 wouldn't earn the right to knock off #1 outside of regular season and conference champ games. Regular season matters more than any other brand of football.

Carolina can go undefeated this year and perhaps lose in the playoffs to a team with a losing record. That proves YOUR point and also the stupidity of a large playoff pool.

There will always be some subjectivity involved when humans select the teams.

This year, I think the humans did ok.

It is hard to cone down 120 teams to 4 or even 8.

Except op in this thread is a bama fan. 2 years of playoff have meant a tougher road for bama both years.

Not sure why he thinks 8 teams would be helpful when it clearly puts higher ranked teams at a disadvantage.

So clemson goes all the way to the final 4, they are undefeated and ranked #1. Why should they play #4 OU? What is there to gain from this and why do we care about OUs desire to "prove it"? They had all year to do so. They didn't.

The NFL is completely different. Its not a ranking system. Its about winning your division and conference. If a team with a losing record wins, then so be it. Like I said, the giants have two super bowls with Eli.

Exactly. The teams begging i ln will play 20 games, because it cant hurt their position. The teams who are at the top have no incentive for that system.

I'm still trying to figure out your point. You saying OSU losing to Va Tech proved your point.

The playoffs dont prove who the best team is. It accomplishes nothing that the BCS did not already do. It exists merely to triple the number of quarters required to crown a champion.

The more we expand this, the more pointless we make the regular season. The more mediocre teams that wind up in the playoffs the more we are going to see good teams with great seasons get beat by mediocre teams who "proved" it in the playoffs. It is utterly pointless and no less subjective than the previous system. Actually it is more subjective. Furthermore, it punishes the best teams with the best record by forcing them to give other teams the chance to do what they failed to do through the whole season. As I said before, any team can beat any other team. As we see this year, OU is favored against clemson, but ranked #4. Nice. OU lost to texas. Clemson has not lost. Clemson shouldn't have to play OU to prove anything. They are #1.

If you want a playoff then make an actual playoff. It has to be based on something other rankings.

ETA: I am still waiting on the bad matchups list.

When did Tennessee and Ole Miss start hating each other. I have seen more smack talk between these two teams than anyone else this past week.

For some reason, OM is obsessed with us and so a few of our posters snipe right back at them. I don't understand it either. Seems stupid since Ole Miss is not a team I think about a lot since we don't play them a lot.
