There is not fair way. Bring back the BCS. The playoffs suck. It's just a way to make what used to take 4 quarters take 12.

its not broken, the bcs never got it wrong and would have been fine with a plus one game. The regular season has meaning and very rarely do more than four teams deserve shite. you would have 3 or 4 worthless teams in almost every year compared to the one exception.

The perfect setup is 6. Top 2 get a bye. 3-6 play it out

I dont support a playoff, but if I did it would be like this.

Power five champs and wildcard are in, top two teams get a bye. Use the BCS system to rank playoff teams for bye purposes only.

the dumbest part of this new format is the conference championship game. You can't have 4 conferences playing an extra game and one conference not. Either have everyone play one or have no one play one. 8 games with no conference championship would make sense or 11 regular season games instead of 12 would also make sense.

Each conference also needs to start playing the same number of conference games. Its not fair that some conferences play 8 and others play 9

Exactly. And as it is now, being the best team mean absolutely nothing. Clemson is getting hosed playing OU in the first game. What is the point? Just have the BCS judge everyone on the same criteria and let the top 2 play for it all. Why reward the 8th ranked team with a chance to win it all?

It obviously is, when every other league including the FCS has a playoff clearly something is wrong. With 128 teams in the league you have to have at least an 8 team playoff.

The regular season isn't unique, that's just shut people who hate the idea of a playoff claim to make their point seem legit

Or we could use the BCS and not try to make the conferences uniform just for football.

How did Clemson get hosed? What because they have to play another legit team?

Guys, 6 is the answer. If you go to 8 then how much of your team is actually left by the championship game

That isn't what I said. Why should clemson have to play number 4 if they already number one? The teams are ALREADY RANKED. Let one play two and call it.

So don't let Oklahoma in even though Oklahoma is pretty legit? Great logic

Based on merit I don't know that I'd have OSU in a 16 team playoff.

They'd get into a 16 team merit based playoff, but it would be because of their name. How ironic is that?

8 makes the most sense and only takes one more week.

Top 8 (4 games)
Top 4 (2 Games)
Top 2 Championship Game

It's not a league, and choosing those 8 teams would be equally subjective and meaningless as 4, with as much controversy as who gets left out and just as much reason to keep expanding, and continues to devalue the most meaningful regular season in sports.
