Will "the God thing" start to get challenged on legal grounds?

It looks like Dabo and Clemson have drawn attention from a religious watchdog group:
Separation of church and football?

***deleting the last joke because this is a legit question***

I don't see the big deal - bible studies, pray meetings, healing sessions, vacation bible school are all VOLUNTARY. No one is forcing any religion on anyone.

I am agnostic, but I even I understand how much of a part of southern football this stuff is. At least that's the way I look at it. In the end, it is all voluntary.

First off, religon threads are frowned upon by admins here because of the uproar they cause.

Secondly, you took a legit topic that could create lots of discussion and ruined it with this troll statement:

quote:

I'm guessing they would have gone after auburn, but nobody wanted to face the wrath of both Jesus AND Kristi Malzahn.

We all have our opinions on what should or should not allowed...the curiosity to me is whether it will be. I've always been a little surprised that nobody challenged the strong link between conservative Christianity and college football programs, especially in our conference. Yet taking a strong stand to separate religion from the program would severely hurt them for many recruits.

Don't fight it, son. Let it go.

Embrace the same things your fathers embraced. It's one of our calling cards

I'm an equal opportunity jimmy rustler.

I rustle jimmies almost exclusively based on SEC football, but the individual routes I take to rustle those SEC football jimmies are numerous.

My Dad was seriously rustled when Gene Chizik stated, after Cam Newton's miraculous fourth quarter against Clemson in 2010: "It's a God thing."

Seriously, Dad called me and bitched about that for a half hour.

Loved every second of it

Also, religion is a bit bigger down here than it is up there in the Midwest, much like football. We prefer our institutions and those who front them to be larger than life (see Huey P. Long).

With all that said, I'll be attending mass on Sunday, the first of my biannual church services

I'm tired of seeing voluntary activities involving religion attacked over and over again.

I know people like to say "keep religion in church where it belongs", but many people of faith (like me) try to practice and live out our religion every day, wherever we are, even if we don't always engage in outward expressions of it, not just on Sunday mornings.

I hope the Clemson issue doesn't get these sorts of activities barred from universities.

I don't have a problem with it. I think the only issue is whether or not the kids feel like they have to attend even though it is voluntary. As long as there is no implied obligation I don't see the big deal.
