And yet he's one of the 5 finalists for the 247 OC of the Year Award. What's the story, guys? Does he suck or not?

ETA: Bobo won dat shite, y'all. Bow down

quote:

Mike Bobo, Georgia

Georgia suffered tons of personnel losses because of injury this season, including star running back Todd Gurley for a spell, fellow running back Keith Marshall for the season at mid-year, receiver Malcolm Mitchell in the preseason and then some, including star senior quarterback Aaron Murray in the second-to-last game of the season to a torn ACL. Still, the Bulldogs finished 8-4, rallied to beat Georgia Tech, 41-34, in the season finale without Murray (after being behind 17-0 early- and the Jackets had a top 20-ranked defense this season) and finished No. 17 nationally in total offense, averaging 489.8 points per game. When fully healthy, this was one of the best offenses in college football - as South Carolina and LSU - both top 10 opponents - found out in September - surrendering 41 and 44 points and more than 500 yards to the Dawgs. The resolve in Bobo’s unit and his ability to orchestrate a comeback (Tech and also they were behind 37-17 to Auburn with 12:39 to play, rallied to take the lead 38-37 before falling, 43-38 on the miracle 75-yard touchdown catch by Ricardo Louis) cemented his status as one of the top offensive minds in college football.

I mean he clearly doesn't suck, but the critics will be here soon enough to say that impartial observers are blind disneydawgs

I sometimes wonder if Bobo wasn't named "Bobo," would we take it easier on him? Like, what if his last name was "Williams." Would we sit here and say "Gahdammit, Williams, run a screen every now and then you frick!"

I think half the ire is simply in how silly sounding his name is.

I think there's a lot of truth in that.

I think you're onto something here. His name sounds like a clown, so people make fun of him. He's given UGA fans no legit reason to dislike him over the past couple years, but people do anyway.

His play calling early on was troubling at times and people just can't open their eyes to see that he's pretty damn good.

It's been years since I've uttered the words, "Bobo sucks." I'd even say that he is above average. But let's get one thing straight. He's not elite.

Oh wow, what a stretch. The guy is a damn good offensive coordinator and doesn't get the respect that he deserve from our fanbase.

Part of that is how he acted in college and when he came back.

Just because you're anxious to lap up his pecker spit, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

He's a good OC. He utilizes his talent effectively and has really opened up the playbook with some creative plays.

He started off slow and has had a great deal of on-the-job training, but I'm glad he's our OC. He's done a really good job over the past few seasons especially. Even with injuries, we were still putting up pretty good offensive numbers this season.

For the critics who say that it was our talent that made him look better than he is: that may be true, but I don't think it is. At the very least, he knows how to use the talent we have on offense to get good production. The same can't be said for the defense, where we have had a ton of talent over the past few years with mediocre (at best) results. By comparison, our offense has been a force. I credit a lot of that to how Bobo has used the weapons available to him.

Way to take it there. First class.

What do you want from Bobo? 40+ points a game? Consistent 500 yard games? Balance on offense?

We averaged 489.8 (490) yards of offense and 38 points a game WITHOUT our number 1 receiver and our next 3 receivers missing a lot of time, some of it significant. Also throw in Marshall, Gurley, and the two freshmen RB's we had toting the rock in the middle of the season.

That's good enough for 4th in the conference behind AU, A&M, and Mizzou. But he's above average

I've seen more than a few use "Blowbo" on a regular basis recently and over the years back to DR days. You know who you are. Me included. Draw draw draw punt. He has called decent games this year. Elite? frick no.

Bobo is going to be the next HC at Georgia, and Aaron Murray will be his O-coordinator
