Who cares? They themselves it was too close and they didn't want to be in that position again. Their bridge scheduling has been a brilliant way to manipulate the system.

Yes, when has
A) the national media ever lobbied for a rematch
B) the quality of loss become more important than the quality of wins?

We've never had a situation like this where two great teams played a close game and the lesser team won. It's only fair that the best team in the nation plays for the national title.

This.

Also, I believe a lot of the media recognized that LSU violated its own written drug enforcement policy (i.e., two game suspension) to allow ineligible players to play in the first game. I don't think it really made a difference in the outcome but I think it pissed off the Ivory Tower crowd enough to set the rematch in stone.

I really believe TM7 could have had a different story if they would not have thrown out their integrity for one game. Imagine the impression it would have made as opposed to the message they sent.

I can't speak for him, but this did actually happen to me. My parents talk about it like it's some funny story, but I'm like that shite isn't funny (I could have been an engineer or something).

I still knowing Les Miles himself voted Alabama #2 at the end of the regular season that year.
