I will be in Birmingham with two buddies for 2 nights, October 31 and November 1.
Where should we go to eat and what bars do y'all recommend?
Places could be high end or low end, just unique/authentic. For example, folks on here sent me to Galatoire's and Commanders Place in NOLA, and Adair's in Dallas. We had a great time at all of them.

Chez fonfon and Highlands bar and Grill are two places I love.

Both of these places are fantastic, but the best restaurant in Birmingham is Hot and Hot. The chef there is simply genius.
Also, if you want to feel at home, there is a Louisiana guy with a restaurant down on Highway 280 who has LSU memorabilia all over the walls. He calls it Crazy Cajuns.

How did this end up on the Auburn team page?
Have we moved to Birmingham?

Patty melt from Marty's. Unless you're one of those people that frowns on dives and doesn't enjoy typically pretty good live music by good local bands.

Sympathy for being in the middle of nowhere.

If you want to go for cheaper, but still really good I love Flat Top Grill and Mugshots.

Highland's Bar & Grill is the best restaurant in Bham.
A rather new restaurant that is also really good is Ollie Irene.
I've been to Hot & Hot Fish 3 times, and have yet to be impressed, but everyone's opinion varies. Chef there just won a James Beard award.
BBQ, Saw's in Avondale is my favorite and there's a brewery with a great bar next door. Not a fan of their beer, but the bar is great.
Don't really have many bar recs. I'm old and don't get to them much anymore. I guess Innisfree is still a popular spot.

Lloyds on 280 for southern home style cooking. Prices are good and proportions epic.
Another great place is the restaurant at the Farmer's Market on Finley Ave. This is lunchtime only. The fried green tomatoes and the banana pudding are amazing. It is cafeteria style.
For a burger, try Milos. There are several locations about town. The French fries are fantastic. They are seasoned. The burgers are also unusual. They come with a sauce. Messy and wonderful.

Its a boring shite hole of epic proportions.
Can't everyone live in the bustling social center of Waterproof, La.......
If you're going for upscale dinning:
Highlands Bar and Grill, Hot and Hots, Bottega, Daniel George, GianMarco's, Chez FonFon, and Cafe Dupont.
Bar places:
Mugshots, J Clyde, Tilted Kilt, Billy's Bar and Grill
There are a bunch of BBQ places and lunch spots. I need to take the time to make a list that I can copy and paste when this question gets asked again. We had a discussion on the F&D board recently about the lack of "food culture" in Birmingham that I found comical.......
Enjoy your trip!

Just where are you staying in "Birmingham"...The reason why I ask is some people call anything inside Jefferson County Bham and even parts of north Shelby County.

There are lots of great places to eat in Birmingham. My favorites are probably J Clyde, Saw's for BBQ, either El Barrio or Rojo's for Mexican/American food, and Milo's for a messy burger and sweet tea that will give you diabetes. If you're into micro brews you should definitely check out Good People and Avondale Brewing. Some of it just depends on where you're staying and how much you're willing to drive, as Birmingham and it's suburbs are very spread out.

A lot of good recommendations in this thread.
Only one I would add that hasn't been mentioned is Dyron's low country.

Is Superior Bar and Grill still open on 280? I know it was hopping for Happy Hour with killer Margaritas when I lived there for a few nightmare years.
