How about putting the new or old State Seal on a dark blue background, and we can join the other 22 states with such an original design. 
Or just take a cue from Georgia and re-commission the Stars and Bars.
Frankly, I'm not in favor of changing it because I like to stick my thumb in the eyes of mouthy outsiders and everyone else stupid enough to blame terrible acts on inanimate objects. If the people of the State vote to change it, then I'll accept it.

I think we should let all of our bordering states annex equal portions of Mississippi between themselves, and then admit Puerto Rico into the union so we don't have to change the U.S. flag

Well, everyone in all of those states say they know what's best for us. Maybe you're right.
But we can't keep the American flag, either. It screams racism: American Flag=racist.

I'm not a huge fan of writing on flags. The design of the flag should be so well done it needn't say the name of the state. How about symbols to to represent Virtute (Virtue) et Armis (Arms)?

The flag needs to go but damn when you can't even release a Civil War video game because of the Confederate flag... c'mon...
