I understand the confederate flag, but the ms flag is a stretch. This is dumb. I'm sure it will be changed and if so get rid of minority scholarships and afirmative action because it's oppressing me.

Around 40% of the state definitely thinks the current MS flag is racist. The other 60% should respect that.

These are Confederate flags so hopefully we won't be using the Bonnie Blue or the Magnolia. LINK

The current flag is an embarrassment and needs to go. I like the original Magnolia Flag, although I agree it could use some updating.

I don't think the issue with the battle flag is that it was used by the confederacy, it is that it became a symbol of racism to many postbellum. The Bonnie blue was also the flag of the Republic of West Florida, and although it was used in the Civil War by the South, it doesn't have the offensive connotation associated with the argument against the battle flag.

Not using the magnolia is ridiculous, the magnolia is the state tree/flower so anyone complaining about that is just a Dendrophobic.

I'm speaking in regards to the flag. If you showed someone offended by the battle flag, the Bonnie Blue, would they be offended?

The average person, no. But anyone that is legitimately offended by the battle flag, yes. I know that a bunch of rednecks popularized the battle flag and gave it a bad image but the fact still remains.

That bears a single star.

A flag versus acts used to combat oppression and racism is a ridiculous comparison.....I don't care about the flag but your comments are ignorant.

You do not make things right by flipping the script. Plus who can be mad about working for food, shelter, and medical.

300 years of poverty makes those type of laws necessary....it was the only available solution to solve a very dire problem.....have they helped to a degree....but the alternative option of ignoring the issue.....would have only made things worse.

As well, minorities are not the largest group of people on Medicare or Medicaid.....so that's simply a false assumption that is promoted.

From what I gather, the majority of people legitimately offended by the battle flag is offended because of the connotation it garnered after its use in the war.

The Bonnie and Magnolia seems like an excellent option. So long as they fix the damn magnolia so it doesn't look like a 3rd grader's rendition of broccoli

I think it's time to remove the laws.

Anything Confederate is offensive including flags, songs, mascots, street names, statues (UT is likely removing one soon), etc. It will all be removed eventually.

If the Bonnie or Bonnie/Magnolia happen, that's just hypocritical.
