The guy still hasnt provided a link to the cemetery thing. I couldnt see anyone wanting to move bodies. That is the ultimate disrespect. No one would ever do that.

You still haven't addressed the question though. At what point do you draw the line? How is the current traditions in place now still harmful to Ole Miss?

You can't completely sever ties to the past of your University and develop all new traditions. That's such a silly notion. Bjork is right in creating a new identity, but I sincerely doubt he's talking about removing every last inkling of what has made Ole Miss, Ole Miss. You're once again taking extremes.

Again I say, it's not evolving it's hiding. I will never agree with that line of thinking as long as I live.

No I wouldnt be cool with it. In large part because it doesnt make sense financially. Its also because red and blue are the official school colors.(Maybe not the red and blue currently used but you get the point)

That isnt a tradition. Thats deciding to change the school colors. It is no where near as simple as getting rid of some old song that isnt a offiial song.

You are still talking about the University evolving to get rid of things that could be harmful to the school.

Therefore, if someone came out and demanded the colors be changed because they are offensive because of their ties to the confederacy. It's the same argument being made as with Dixie and Colonel Reb.

Saying the song Dixie has racial connotations is debatable. Saying the color red and blue are racist is silly. That argument wouldnt make it anywhere.

You'll notice that they removed our grey uniforms this year... Several journalist last year complained that they were just modern day confederate uniforms..

Not saying the two are related butttt coincidence

They replaced them with better looking ones.

Also those greys were only special jerseys anyway. Removing them was no different than removing the powder blue ones.(Or light blue or whatever color you wanna call those old ones)

Regardless the argument is still there. And again you haven't answered the question, where is the medium?

I dont think there is a medium. I think every university should always be asking questions on how to better its perception. Always. Whats cool in 2013 may be totally wrong in 2020. You have to act accordingly.

Really? That's such a cop out. So you honestly think they should push it as far as they can for a vocal minority?

we aren't talking about things that are "cool".. We are talking about things that people genuinely love and have associated with Ole Miss their entire lives.

Just because you associate something with the program doesnt make it right. People associated waving confederate flags at games with Ole Miss. We can all look back now and say that probably wasnt the best idea.

That is my point. You have to continue to evolve and question whether this tradition still fits the direction the program is moving.

oh my fricking god.

I've said about 300 times in this thread that the confederate flags should have been dropped.

my point in my previous post wasn't that every ole miss tradition is right. You said that we have to evolve to include new "cool" things. To me that implies things such as locking the vault which has been around all of one year.

We are discussing things in this thread that have been around for decades.

And just because someone else associates a negative connotation with something that is attached to the program doesn't mean you should have a knee jerk reaction and remove it either.

We're talking about what the ASB and others are attempting to remove right now. Why does Ole Miss need to continue to take additional steps at this juncture when they've clearly established a very open, even controversial pattern for removing themselves from the negative racist stigma?
