If its a non issue why are you wasting your time to tell us not to worry about it? If you don't care then keep your mouth shut and go on your merry way.

because it's fun to watch the freshman and sophomores every year bitch about Colonel Rebel and "traditions" even though they were likely 8 years old when the Col. was taken off the field.

And yes....I know OP is talking about the guy elected as Col. Rebel and not the foam-headed guy. But the point still remains. My personal favorite is the "I have no argument" post about banning Colonel from the Army because of....blahblahblah.

that was a good one.

But it's tradition.

and so was having an actual confederate soldier waving a confederate flag on the field.....

and so was being called the Mississippi Flood.....

and so was etc., etc,.....

we also have the tradition of having fans far to concerned with pageantry, nonsensical bullshite, and drinking in the Grove than winning the actual ballgame.

I guess we just have two ways of thinking about things. I just hate to see everything go. LSU keeps the "fighting tigers". Auburn with "war eagle". Both were the areas divisions name in the civil war. James Meredith said himself that the biggest disgrace to what he achieved was the removal of the colonel for political correctness. It was a mascot for the university and not for slavery. I will always love this school but when the name "Ole Miss" finally goes my alumni donations will go to Alabama.

Meredith also talks a lot of shite about Ole Miss when not on a podium.

which is my problem.....people pledge their allegiance to a name than the actual school/team itself. The Square will still be there....as will the grove, campus, and sports teams.

Same.
And I hope all our major boosters do the same. Hell, instead of giving money to Bama, give it to State. That will send a bigger message.

why? that you care about a name that much more than winning games?

This is why we can't have nice things.......like real trophies.

I refuse to support a school and administration who insists on getting rid of traditions because someone's feelings got hurt. The name Ole Miss isn't hurting anyone. It's what we're known by and it is more than just a nickname. If it goes, I hope all boosters go.

Anyone who thinks the name Ole Miss should be taken away is an ignorant tool and I refuse to support a school that gives into people like that.

I thought the same thing......and 'd

Look....people said the same shite when the Johnny Reb got taken off the field. Then said the same shite when the Flags got "banned".....then once again said the same shite when fake Col. reb got taken away. Also said same shite when FDWL was taken away.

.....yet we have record enrollment and endowment every year. In spite of the continual empty threats, Ole Miss continues to prosper.

anyone who continues to throw out the "when Ole Miss gets taken away" regardless of the fact the "Ole Miss" branding is more visual now than ever before.......is also an ignorant tool. You think Alabama gives a shite about "traditions"? No....they want championships and people who have never even been to Tuscaloosa give money to the program.

Priorities, my friend.....priorities.

I really don't care about Colonel Reb or the flags. Getting rid of From Dixie With Love was not something I was a big fan of. Because a few idiots were yelling TSWRA, doesn't mean everyone should have to suffer. They weren't yelling racial slurs or anything. The university made it out to be a bigger deal than it actually was.
