That's going to be the new pair of coordinators. Let's hope they bring in some energy, excitement, and success.

Well we don't have a choice. We are all servants to Freezus' will.

Can't help but think about where this program would be right now had Florida taken Freeze away and we hired Fuente away from Memphis.

Longo is going to be fun and put up points. Guy runs a very productive and exciting offense. VERY up tempo. Like no huddling ever and running to the line for the next snap. Shades of Oregon, but more passing and less zone reads.

McGriff is a fricking head scratcher and a bad hire IMO.

Concur. I've warmed up to Longo bc at least it will be business as usual with high-powered offense. His rushing scheme is more proven than previous Ole Miss OCs.

McGriff is meh AF and I don't like the hire, but Freeze doesn't seem interested in pursuing other candidates.

What big differences can we expect to see on offense? Does this system use a dedicated TE or will that continue to be a hybrid role? I'm assuming we'll still be a pass heavy team and that the system will allow Patterson to scramble and run QB/RB Options?

Well said, and I agree.

McGriff is a great recruiter and position coach. We'll see how he adjust to running the D, but he has the tools. Will be interesting to see who he brings at the open positions

He was a good position coach at Auburn for one year with some experienced players. He managed one of the worst secondaries in NFL history before that though.

I agree he can recruit his arse off, but his lack of experience running a defense would alarm me a little. I just think Freeze wanted recruiters more than a guy that can field a consistently great defense, scheme wise.

I hope to God I am wrong about Longo, but I really don't think he is ready to go up against SEC defenses.

His struggles at the Saints could probably be chalked up to several factors but he did develope some good players there on an individual level. He's been pretty successful at Auburn, OM, and Vandy, but at all the Db coach level. We'll just have to see how he can transition to a coordinator though, but he's been in enough coaches meetings and gameplanning meetings (at both college and pro levels) to have pick up some pretty good pieces. Again, we'll just have to wait and see, but if nothing else, the talent level should pick back up.

I doubt Longo will be running his offense. He'll be running Freeze's offense with input for limited changes

I honestly think that SEC defenses are going to destroy Longo's offenses. JMU nearly shut him out ffs. I don't care if he lost the game, it was the fact that this damn "Brilliant Offensive Guru" only managed to score 7 points against a worthy team.

Teams have bad games or matchups from time to time. You can't look at one bad game and ignore an otherwise consistant body of work.

For all we know, their QB might have been hungover. And I have absolutely no clue about the talent discrepancy between the two teams.

SEC defenses won't be going up against SHS talent.

If you want to continue to base your opinion of the guy off one game, then that's fine. Coaches and teams have bad games but that doesn't mean very much in the grand scheme of things.
We'll have to see have everything shakes out but basing your entire perception on one game (a road game in freezing conditions in which his defense gave him no support, no less) is a weird way to go about it

Not making excuses for Longo but I'm sure the team knew he had a foot out of the door. I think Longo can be great or a terrible hire with his limited OC experience.

We probably don't make it the Sugar last year, never get Kelly but probably don't go 5-7 this past year.

I've said all along, that Freeze has both a potentially higher ceiling and yet at the same time a potentially lower floor than most.
