Is mcgriff bringing some guys with him. I thought i heard a name recently in association with mcgriff.

obviously have many spots to fill and replace. any names?
any thoughts on a WR coach? does Longo have a guy or is he the WR coach judging by his philosophy? either way can we hire another oustanding recruiter in that QB / WR coach?
Or Will Sean Patterson just get promoted?

I haven't posted in a few days as I was melting pretty hard with us replacing our Sun Belt level offensive staff with a Southland level guy, but I've moved on and wont dwell on it any longer so I can focus on recruiting.

I'm all-in with McGriff. I was hoping for Leavitt, but The Crime Dog was my realistic and close second place. I'm just glad Tom Allen got the HC job elsewhere. I was afraid he'd come back which would have not just been underwhelming, but absolutely terrible. I'm excited to see the defensive talent McGriff will pull here over the next few years.

Longo - Here's my positive spin on it. I rarely admit it, but I was a Leach guy during our HC search a few years ago, as I was thinking with the same logic I was during our OC search the past two weeks; I believed we needed a splash hire in order for us to get out of the gutter and gain momentum. When Freeze was announced, I was pretty depressed and assumed we'd be a 2 win program for the next few years until we got to start all over again. How could a girls basketball coach save our program and bring in SEC talent?!? I just couldn't see it. Hell, I still can't grasp how he did it, but he's done a pretty good job in that department. Sure, we've fricked our selves defensively, but he's brought in talent I've never dreamed would come here. Who knows how Leach would have panned out, but I ate my crow as Hugh did drastically improved the program almost overnight. Last year aside, he's been great for our program outside of his brain numbing calls which I chalked up to needing more experience in the big leagues. Just when we think he's matured, he brings us back to reality that he's not too far removed from being a high school coach.

Anyway, I'm hoping I'll be eating crow a few years from now as Longo does help improve our offense and perfect what Freeze has started. Maybe we didn't need that splash hire and he's exactly the guy to help balance Freeze and keep him from going full retard so often. We shall see, but that's what I'm hoping for. To be clear, I'm almost positive this was a puppet hire so Freeze can keep calling the shots in "his" offense. I'm not delusional, just hoping I'm wrong.

I really, really want us to hire a dedicated and proven special teams guy now. Special teams can make or break you, and it without a doubt has cost us more than a few games over the years.

That's about as posi-Reb as I'll ever be, so don't get used to it. I got a little sick just typing that out. I haven't slept in three days and have a baby with pink eye and the flu, my wife with the flu, and trying to run a business during our craziest time of the year. Maybe I'm just losing my mind and will look back on this post as pure crazy talk. Now, let's fire up the recruiting thread and see if we can't salvage the class and give us a little hope/momentum going into next year.

I agree with you WD , I haven't posted alot/recently joined, but have been sitting here just kind of in shock mode. Having to listen to us hire an FCS OC, and not the highest of names DC.

I can sympathize with you on the parental front and hope they have a speedy recovery. I'm sitting here raising my 4 year old daughter alone and on top of that got laid off right here at Christmas. So I'm hoping that some kind of happiness we can take away with these hires.

I know probably the NCAA probably had their part in these hires, but hopefully the new guys can shock us and make us at least relevant somewhat again. Here's hoping to a better year and a decent remainder of the recruiting.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New year.

In all seriousness, I really hope I have to eat crow on this, but I think this guy is going to crumble against defensive coordinators worth a damn. Before someone starts mentioning that is was just 1 game... it was the one game against a team significantly better than his... much like Bama is to us.

My other big worry is... who is he bringing in for position coaches? More Southland guys? I certainly hope not. Can he recruit? Let's hope so.

Freeze is digging his own grave. Looks like he doesn't want to bring anyone in who can outshine him and potentially replace him.

I hope they get better soon!

I REALLY hope we bring in James Willis from the Saints. Guy is a beast with LBs.

Well for one he could make more money. Luke makes 565k. Willis isn't making that. But how much do you think OM would be willing to pay for better LB play and development. He is a assistant position coach. He might also enjoy working with a close friend. He might want to get back to college football. He might look at it as a opportunity to grow as well.

McGriff will put us in the game with Gay and Avery but it's probably too little too late

No he's staying. He was talking about longo and the offense when that was quoted.

Mcgriff said he's excited to work with Jason.

We need to hire a full time special teams coach.
On top of other new hires not depend on someone who we just have in a pinch.

We need to take Memphis S/T coach he had the best unit in the nation

So JMU is up 17-0 on ndsu and has totally shut down their offense. Maybe Longo's loss wasn't as bad as it looked
