Can someone summarize David Johnson's interview with Longo about his OL philosophy?

Pretty much stating that if we're going to run the ball then the oline will know we are running. He said that having the oline pass block during rpo plays takes away their aggressiveness. Will be more power run blocking

Good hire right? I would think just as good, if not better, recruiter as Heard

I've kinda skimmed through most of this thread and I see the long conversation about how much Longo is getting paid but what are yalls thoughts on McGriff getting 1M+ Per year? Or is that even accurate?

It's accurate. I think 1m was probably the minimum we were going to pay for pretty much anybody unless we went fcs with that hire too.

Holla at me next season. Kinda hard to say it's too much without knowing what he can do. He has his work cut out for him.

The DL and Secondary is fine because they have parts there to play with....the issue is LBer. Getting a great LB coach and getting bodies will be the biggest issues facing Crimedog!

Gunter Brewer is a big improvement over Heard. He's a really good on-field coach and also, like Barney Farrar, he knows everyone in the state and how to recruit the state.

Between Scott and Brewer we're raiding the UNC staff.

I don't know why people are upset about losing Heard. He seemed like a great guy, but Treadwell outed him when he said he never learned to run routes here.

This breakdown was a great read for a "simplistic" way the offense works. I love it. Can't wait to read part 2 with how the run works in this system.

Yeah I kinda figured that was the gist of it. Preciate it.

I tried reading that article until it bored me to absolute tears, but it seems to me like the offense could be very feast or famine. The quarterbacks and receivers have to have even more chemistry with this type of teaching philosophy to complete simple passes. I hope that Shea and AJ, DK, Van, DeMarkus, Octavius, etc. are ready to work.

Completely agree.

Shea likes to improvise, so I can see him doing well with this; but once he's gone, who the frick knows. I'm praying Longo is better than he looks.

May not be a sexy hire but if true the guy can recruit. He specializes in the Texas area. He also has coached LBs for a very long time and has HC experience as well as coordinator experience.

Fantastic guy. Great recruiter. So-so coach (at best). I don't think his HC and coordinator experience is a plus since he was pretty much a disaster at both

All I care about is if he can get linebackers to campus and teach them the fundamentals. It would be great if he could also work on our special teams.
