What's packaged as fiscal conservatism is just cutting programs they don't believe in

BING-FREAKING-OOO!

That's borderline brilliant. I see examples of this all the time, especially at work. There is a pervasive mindset that we are fiscally conservative because we cut programs and staff, when in reality, we need those services, we just need to operate them smarter.

I don't think not allowing gay marriage was hindering the economy per say, but I see your point. You don't care about the social policies enough to adamantly argue against them, and would prefer the focus be on the economy. I'm with you.

Gay marriage is legal now though

That does not change the fact that the conservative republican party is against it. The Republican party will continue to lose gay voters until it recognizes that hey, gay people aren't that bad, and they can still go to heaven.

I agree. They are doing themselves a disservice by not accepting that the world has changed around them.

As someone who sees himself as an Independent because I don't trust either side. I typically vote Republican because I don't think higher taxes, more free stuff, more government is the solution.

So Democrats, I'd like to try to understand your side of the story. Can anyone give me a few reasons I should vote Democrat?

Btw, real talk.

They only legitimate reason I can think of voting Democrat is that Republicans Party is becoming the party of big corporations that are anti-competitive. The Republican Party is starting to equate Corporatism with Capitalism. Being for market solutions doesn't always mean, "let a business do whatever they want, and if they are doing something wrong then the market will decide". That is a grotesque sales pitch and it makes me disgusted when Libertarians and Conservatives champion it. Anti-trust laws are important. SOME environmental regulations are important. Lobbyists and special interests are disgusting. Citizens United is a bad thing. Net Neutrality is a good thing.

Now. The Democrats have far more negative policy points, and are often just as responsible for the Corporatism we have today as Republicans(Hillary Clinton), they think "capitalism" is a dirty word, and I've never voted Democrat in my life and probably never will... but if a Democrat was genuinely fiscally conservative, I might consider it. Like Mark Cuban. I'd totally vote for Mark Cuban.

I'll just say that I agree with just about everything you've said in this thread.

That's usually the case with you and I when politics comes up on this board.

Point being: things are either right or wrong. Take a stance and don't be a thoughtless moderate.

I'm sure you like black and white. You are beyond remediation. Enjoy your extremism.

Can you give me a few examples of "real fiscal conservatism?"

Fiscal policy is WAY more important. The better the economy the more people you have working and the less time people spend bickering about social matters. Why, because they are too busy working then to be all up in someone else's business.

Money solves a lot of social problems.

American values are a constantly changing thing. Your version of those will be different than future generations.
Just like yours are different than the generations before you.

That is true.

This generation now is lazy and doesn't work hard and think they have a sense of entitlement.

They want free tuition.

Is that how you want to be? Too busy working to worry about things like human rights? Sounds an awful lot like China.

There is a difference between human rights and trivial shite like white privilege.

Or maybe they work the night shift so they're able to be on the streets at 9 with a sign. Or maybe it's their off day. Or maybe the cause is so important to them they used a vacation day.
