It's so sad to see because some of these people were just dealt a shitty hand. That sort of goes back to my point about healthcare.

There's no question our welfare system needs a major overhaul, but there is a tremendous amount more waste and abuse within our military budget. This is one area that really bothers me about both parties. Welfare/entitlement reform is off the table for Democrats, while military spending is off the table for Republicans. BOTH are in need of serious overhaul when it comes to spending.

Sorry about that. I did read it incorrectly and then after you edited, I couldn't read again for clarification. That entire 2 page tangent was pointless. Sorry for calling you ignorant.

We've been discussing social policy, not white privelage. The fact that you think the CONCEPT of white privelage is related to ACTUAL social policy is pretty telling. Please name a piece of legislation that has been passed that addresses "white privelage."

One that leads to robust economic growth and low unemployment.

Hey, maybe Obama is on to something on the 2nd thing.

Sure: The voter is adamant about free choice for women, but deep down inside are fiscally conservative. If the republican candidate advocated free choice, they would 100% vote republican. Instead they vote democrat. That is a very, very common situation in this country and I have witnessed this myself numerous times. Another example: The person who believes all individuals who advocate same sex marriage/ legalizing marijuana, etc. Those people typically tend to vote social policy over there fiscal policy because hey, they still have a job, car, nice things. SJW.

Very solid point. I too am fiscally conservative, but I let social issues drive my vote.

ETA: I would be willing to bet it is very rare in this country for an individual to let their fiscal policy beliefs (if existent, which probably 80% of the time, they're not) trump their social policy beliefs (which are there 95% of the time.) I firmly believe if the election were based off of economic and fiscal policy alone, the Republican party would win in a landslide every single year.

The Republican party made this bed years and years ago. The went out and formed a huge base of bible thumpers and racists that pushed people like me away. The problem is that base started to and continued to shrink every election because more and more new progressive voters entered the realm. Instead of them seeing this trend and adjusting sooner, they continued to pander to that particular demographic. It is kind of sad really

i support gay marriage rights and adoptions (have a lesbian aunt and her and her wife and 2 beautiful adopted children and they are are all on the same health plan), legalization of pot (because i love it and i find it ridiculous it is not legal), and only support early term abortions but i'm not going to actively root against them ( dont lie to yourself and say you wouldnt have done it to avoid a kid in college). 3 reasons I will never vote republican.

Nothing in particular that is being talked about this election campaign. I would like to see marijuana decriminalized and instead of trying to control guns, why not just punish gun crimes more harshly along with a host of other violent crimes. The ugly "r" word that has been rearing its ugly head has caught my attention too.

Remaining this way is best, IMO.

I have always ended up voting Republican, but only because since I've been a voter, their platforms have aligned more closely with my personal druthers.

That's something that should be re-evaluated every election cycle, IMO. Not many people are conservative or liberal on every issue across the board. Different issues can carry the day and sway one's vote depending on the political climate of that election.

Sadly, too many folks view/treat the political arena like a sports rivalry. Main problem with voters today, if you ask me.

Apologies to you as well. I disagree with your views on protestors, but that's besides the point. I overstepped and took the thread another direction because my reading comprehension is apparently lacking today. my bad.

As someone who generally leans left, this is spot on. I have a buddy, who is in my wedding, that was born and raised as a republican. I mean, hardcore. He consistently says shite like "frickin liberals" or "socialists and their free shite" etc

But when you narrow it down to individual issues, he's not as conservative as he even thinks. It's like a concept to him, because of his upbringing. It's interesting from a psychological standpoint, but also pretty sad. We've been divided down the middle.

Yea im all for an overhaul on both accounts. People should be held accountable for their welfare.

I also agree on the military stance, I want a ridiculously strong military, but the money they give away and waste is ridiculous.

I see so many examples of people repping both D's and R's just like your buddy. It's a crying shame.

Honestly I don't expect or want everyone to agree with me. People are going to have differing values and beliefs. It's part of the wonderful give and take of a free society.

What's frustrating is when so many folks have shallow reasons for voting how they do (or no real reasons at all). When the overarching political discourse devolves into mostly sniping memes and "gotcha" moments, what are we really doing here? Definitely not promoting and intelligent EXCHANGE of ideas for each other to ruminate upon, that's for sure.

Just entrenching ourselves in mindsets we aren't willing to challenge or hold politicians accountable to clearly define.

That's how you get motherfricking Trump vs. goddamned Hillary for the fricking POTUS, for crying out loud

If everyone on TigerDroppings writes in "Shaft", we might carry Louisiana, and then, who knows, other states might want to seem trendy too.
