How would you have done it?

I don't know, just pointing out how America was built. We have a wonderfully deep history of exploiting those with less rights through cheap labor, then vilifying the cheap labor. We're doing it today in the immigration debate.

I'm having a hard time thinking of a modern civilization that wasn't built on the backs of cheap labor...

Count me in. There are no more "black leaders," only those using a terrible past and the emotions that come along with it to better themselves financially.

Today's black trailblazers are vilified and chided for thinking off the reservation. Booker T Washington, George W Carver, Dr King; there are none like them anymore.

Well, it'd only analogous if y'all didn't get to use the month of February for anything, so....

Guess y'all are all off work/school for this month

It began because there was very little black history or heritage covered in text books.

You could say it was whitewashed.

The months should always be kept separate but equal. That's what God intended. Personally, I like black months. But you wouldn't want your month marrying one, would you?

This is dumb, BHM is a good thing, was started for a good reason, and should be continued.

I find that having BHM is racist.

Why should we keep the blacks month separated from the other months? HMMMM

I don't get why this should bother anybody. Does it inconvenience any of us in any way? To me this is as illogical as my old fart dingbat friends having conniption fits over "Press 1 for English".

I'll agree to disagree. I still don't get why anybody would get their knickers in a twist about Black History Month. Is it overboard? Yeah, probably. So what?

Working in education? I think it's inconvenient to waste a whole month on black history when teachers are already on a limited timeframe to prepare students for standardized testing (whose results their jobs depend on). It should all be integrated like any other cultural history month.

Bingo. There's no sense in cramming it all into one month when you can bring it up when it's relevant. It's all American history, as Freeman said. Treat it as such.

I feel the same way about breast cancer awareness month, even though the two aren't similar. It should just be cancer awareness month.
