ETA: covered less specifically before i typed this out, but covered

quote:

The NBA did the right thing by distancing themselves as far away as possible. Good move.

i don't like it.

while i think he's an ignorant fool, i don't like the precedent it sets.

Say I'm an owner and a christian and am invited to speak at an event. At that event there is a discussion of christiany things and somebody talks about homosexuality in that. Or say i donated to an opponent of gay marriage.

now i'm tied to being anti-gay rights and they take away my franchise.

extreme, but not exactly unbelievable (i.e. Mozilla CEO)

Mark Cuban hit the nail on the head. Who determines what is acceptable and what is not? You can't speak out against gay marriage now just ask the former Mozilla CEO.

It is not so farfetched that your party affliliation maybe be grounds in the near future for your termination from work if this continues.

Don't sign a contract that puts said personal property at the discretion of others.

Well since the owners take a vote to kick him out or not, they are who determine what is acceptable.

85% of the league, majority of its former players, and fans are not gay which is why the situation you bring up isn't all that similar.

The owners have a responsibility to conduct a certain way for the betterment of the league as a whole.

If Sterling is allowed to keep this team then they become an even larger laughing stock then they used to be. You've already had draft prospects say they don't want to go play for a team owned by him. They would not be able to sign free agents. etc.

The Clippers in their current set up are one of the more popular teams in the league and the NBA is experiencing a more competitive playoffs than they could have ever dreamed of.

This was a PR move for the league in relationship to its fans and a move by Silver to show that he has the player's backs.

Well now he comes off as a hypocrite as he just tweeted out that he believes Silver did everything 100% correct.

All of this. They dont do this and Doc Rivers prob quits his job, no FA come to the Clippers, and the remaining sponsors get pressure from thier own customers to sever all ties...and I like those State Farm Chris Paul commercials.

Silver can't and isn't forcing him to sell.

ETA: He can't as far as I know, as I assume if there was some clause where Silver could force him to sell one of the talking heads would have mentioned it by now.

He's urging the owners to vote that Sterling is unfit for ownership. Same thing.

I understand what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but if the league had handed down a weak punishment, the court of public opinion would've gone nuts because of how it looks. IMO the NBA had to make a statement with the punishment.

I don't feel bad for the guy, he's a fricking idiot. This just goes to show that we are allowed to say what we want, but there are consequences. Especially when you're a public figure that owns a team in a league with 70% black dudes.
