gotcha. I'm admittedly ignorant on the NBA and basketball in general.

It is an odd situation I find myself in right now, because for some reason it seems like majority of the people on my side of the political spectrum hate the outcome of the decision.

I think we should tolerate people's opinions and beliefs even if we disagree with them or are offended by them. Tolerance doesn't mean agreement.

The NBA is a private institution that can do what they want. The owners actually have the ability to allow him to keep the team and keep making money from it.

The more paranoid of PC types are upset, but they shouldn't care. It's the decision of a private organization. They should be all on the freedom train.

Would the NBA have to show cause? As in prove it was detrimental?

Depends on the contracts agreed to.

It's not a hard argument that an owner saying those things is bad for the brand.

That's fine and I don't have a problem with what they are doing as long as it is within their right to do it.

My issue is more about the hypocrisy of proclaiming tolerance as you exclude someone who doesn't toe the line. It's a bigger issue than just the NBA, though. It has been a pet peeve of mine for a while now. Everyone is intolerant of certain things, so to make a blanket claim of tolerance is disingenuous.

I don't disagree with this at all.

I was just curious as to legal ramifications, if they don't uphold similar circumstances to the same standard in the future, with other owners, managers, coaches or players..

of course it isn't hard to prove, but is an owner saying those things in private bad for the brand.

this is all snowballing from my wondering if the act of recording his comments and then putting them in public is legal.

According to ESPN no it is not legal. But who is he going to sue? TMZ maybe? His mistress doesn't have shite of her own.

Warrants? I genuinely don't know.

Meh, there is usually justification for someone feeling a certain way about certain more political issues.

There is no justification for what Sterling said other than being an old racist POS.

right, my thought process was if the NBA has to prove his actions are detrimental and he fights it and it somehow goes into a court of law, and her recording is illegal and inadmissible. Where does that leave the NBA? I guess to argue based on his previous actions.

I just think the NBA has overstepped their bounds. It doesn't really have anything to do with PC or not.

Just let the market work it out for them if they really want him to sell. They can still fine him.

Honestly, can anyone give an example of this happening in any other sport with a penalty this egregious? Pete Rose was banned for life for betting on games he was involved in. Has anyone else even been banned for life? This is just too much.

It comes down to the contract/constitution that the Owners have all agreed upon and signed.

The contracts for the players and coaches are different. It is much easier for the league to deal with them.

People can rationalize any opinion they have. I believe Sterling probably truly doesn't believe he's being racist and has based his opinion on what he considers hard evidence. He's wrong, but he believes it to be true.

It is a much larger disaster for the NBA if they don't do what they did
