Do you know that the NCAA has BANNED South Carolina from hosting any basketball tournament games during March Madness? The sole reason: the confederate flag. A lot of people from SC are embarrassed by this flag. It makes us look racist and backwards. I know that many local NAACP and black churches routinely march to the statehouse in Columbia every year around MLK day in protest of the Confederate flag. I went to one with my church around 2007 or so.
Now I think that this incident in Charleston shouldn’t become a political debate, but people have discussed this flag for years now. It’s only just recently made national news. I honestly think that the flag will come down within the end of the decade, if not by the end of the year. Now if they put it in the State Museum, or a Confederate memorial, then that’s fine with me. But to have it fly in a place that represents the center of government for South Carolina does not look good for the state.

Lima, you have to understand that we must suppress any history of the South as racist but a month of BLACK history forced on our children is not racist. They really must be forced to worship upon the altar of white guilt

when muslims commit heinous acts of terror which occur way more than racism in the south the left didn't demand mosque be shut down. Id like some consistence from the left, if they want to wage a war on the cloth than they should wage war on the group that stands against every thing they support.

History is written by the winners especially at the elementary- high school levels and even in some extent in college. Its a shallow look at facts on a time line for the most part in. I don't think much can be done to remedy that because true history takes actually research to learn the reason for things vs just facts on a time line.
Colleges could do a better job with it but far too many teachers of all levels can't separate their bias from disguising facts and reasons things could happen.

I see another reason. By flying it you are keeping it as a reminder to not let it happen again. If you erase history, chances are you will repeat it.

things like this don't take place all the time. Racist incidents happen all over the country. Racist shite happens more often in Europe. Taking a flag down that is flying next to a monument that the NAACP agreed to isn't going to stop another church shooting. These things are rare, its disgustingly insulting to the lives lost to blame a flag flying by a statue for their death or use their death for pushing gun control.
Incidents like this would be even more rare if we focused on a legitimate issue such as mental health.
