"Heritage not hate" is always a funny retort that rednecks use.

The heritage IS hate.

It's not like it's still real present. It's in the MS state flag, and flies at the SC capitol, but other than that where else do you see it? It kinda died out a while ago. Despite what people think it DOES have major ties to the nation's history and absolutely should be in museums, learning exhibits, etc. But it's not like it's currently prominent anywhere I can think of besides those 2 examples.

Bingo. The heritage is the United States flag, not one that was flown on battlefields for a period of 4 years.

I don't care about it. If there were another State election on whether to change the state flag I probably just wouldn't vote.

Stonehog will probably call that racist too but IDK.

It is a part of our past just like slavery.
However, both get constantly brought up.

People just need to move forward and stop bringing up old shite.

I'm not a fan. And I say that as someone whose old man has a huge confederate flag across his right arm with "Lynyrd Skynyrd" going through the middle of it.

It needs a 50 year hiatus from public display because of the Jim crow laws and adoption of it by certain states.

Plenty of other confederate flags could be used for heritage uses until the term expires at which point nobody will give a frick.

Aesthetically, I actually like the way the stars n' bars looks. In a vacuum, it's a pretty badass looking banner

But the whole point of a flag's existence is to hearken to what it stands for. Yes, it stands for a part of Southern heritage (and even a part of Texan heritage, obviously), but the part that it stands for is an era of divisiveness and the attempt to rend the Union asunder in the name of inequality, economics, and belligerence. As such, I cannot condone its display in good conscience, although I think it says more about those who callously go out of their way to display it than those who go out of their way to eradicate it.

You can't erase the past. Trying to do so is asinine. We would all do well to be more cognizant of the connotations of certain symbols, however.

There was a compromise in 2000 that took it off the statehouse and put it on the state house grounds.

Like any symbol, it can be used incorrectly or inappropriately.

I don't mind it so much. It helps me identify the true tPOS...along with obesity, missing teeth and retarded trucks.

Tell you what, I'll add removing the flag and currently it is number 35,562,987,103 on the list of priorities of shite to do in this country.

Flying the flag as an individual is exercising your right to free speech. I have no problem with that. It shouldn't be flown as being sponsored by government.

But would also agree with your point very much.

This. Outside of a part of Mississippi's state flag, where is it flown in an official capacity?
