the South was promoting inequality and belligerence?

Yup.

And by the way, I don't hold the North blameless. Hell the whole reason Lincoln was persuaded to sign the emancipation proclamation was as a political gambit to raise a fighting force.

Let me introduce you to something:

It is called the Saint Patrick's Saltire, which was clearly inspired by the Confederate State's battle flag when it was created in 1783.

It isn't a close match for the Alabama state flag, it is the EXACT match for the Alabama state flag, which is actually called the St. Andrew's Cross as adopted by the state in 1895.

That's revisionist history at it's finest when a flag with an X on it is inspired by the Confederate flag even though it predated the Confederacy by 70 years.

If anything this flag inspired the battle flag, not the other way around.

Ignorance is bliss if you don't realize history repeats and good and bad symbols are less tied to a person or group until we create that perception.

When you see this on a flag, what comes to mind?

Yeah, doesn't that symbol mean "luck" or something in Hindu culture? (Not that Hitler's use of it didn't completely alter the global view of its meaning.)

Yeah and Germany should totally fly these in Berlin:

and while they're at it, might as well bring back the Reichsadler

After all, it's all about German heritage, and if any Jews (what's left of them) have a problem, well they'll just have to get over it. After all, it IS just a fricking flag.

Incorrect, Hitler "created" heritage to give a war torn country a sense of with, even if it was a false sense of worth. The better analogy might be Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" which was said have the greatest effect in energizing the german people. We still here this performed today and is part of American culture.

Mash here if you don't believe.

"In the seal of the City of Mobile"

Yes. Right alongside the U.S., English, Spanish, and French flags which all flew over the city throughout its long history. To suggest that its use in the symbol of Mobile, Alabama is anything other than 100% purely historical is pretty disingenuous.
