I'd say Atlanta is mostly Southern transplants, actually.

Given that you appear to lack intelligence, this must be an invigorating experience for you.

It actually started in South Carolina at Fort Sumter. the rest was tDecline.

The south I think would have been better off if Lincoln had not been shot.

And you'd be right. Every historian agrees with this. Johnson's Reconstruction was all about punishment and ruining the South. Lincoln actually wanted the South to recover

There are certain aspects of Southern culture I wish would die such as the prevalence of many forms of prejudice and much of the ignorance that its undereducated population often prominently display, but the strong sense of tradition, respect for our past, and the general attitude that Southerners have toward one another is something I believe that should be cherished and perpetuated.

And you'd be wrong. When Delta bought Pan Am a HUGE influx of New Yorkers came here. HUGE.
Not to mention that Delta hires a TON of mechanics from Pennsylvania. Some kind of agreement with an A&P School up there.

That said...when they first came down, I really didn't care for them at all. Rude. Sarcastic. Direct.

Once I got to know them, I found they would give you the shirt off their backs. You just had to accept them for what they were. They were products of northern culture and it clashed with what we were used to. Didn't mean they were bad.....just different.

But, they did change Southern culture to a degree.

While to a certaind egree this is true...it is way overplayed by the media. the south is noted for race riots and bigotry in the 50's and 60's. that is crammed down our throats over and over again. And, some is true. MUCH is true.

However, what you DON'T see in the media is some of the worst riots happened in Boston, Detroit, Chicago and many Northern cities. And over much the same reasons...busing and integration. We have our own problems, but so does the North. We just have the reputation thanks to Hollywood and the media.

I mean, you see movies like "Mississippi Burning".

Have you seen the movies about the busing riots in Boston? nope. There was at least two. 1943 and 1967. Chicago? 1919 and 1968. Philadelphia in 1964.

Yes, we are guilty. But don't let anyone fool you. The North was guilty, too.

Your Spurs did pretty well, did they not? Something like 22 turnovers and they still won. If they can cut their turnovers down they should do pretty well!

In fairness, the plot of Mississippi Burning is not comparable to race riots, I get your overall point though

I mean is Florida really a culturally southern state?

Florida has always been a little different. I'm a 7th generation Floridian, most of my family has resided from Sarasota to Punta Gorda, but I still have family in the panhandle region. The way of life has always been different depending on where you are in the state.

I'd say by the looks of all the Yeti Cooler and Salt Life stickers on the back of trucks, Southern Culture is alive and well.
