Any of y'all have a tropical location that you would recommend? Just curious if anyone had a great/terrible experience somewhere before I pick that place.

That's definitely one of the locations that was on our radar

Never been married, but if y'all want something nice and quiet, yet picturesque beyond belief, I would recommend staying on Jost van Dyke, BVI or St. John, USVI.

Do you stay at resorts? If so, is there one that you prefer the most while down there?

Depends on what you want to spend and what you want to do. I have been there about 8 times and to about 5 different resorts. Will be going on August 21st for 11 days coming up
We like the Grand Bavaro. It is a adult only resort and is a little more laid back. If you are young, it may not be what you are looking for. The Iberostar Bavaro was decent and the Excellence was, well. . . Excellent.
Most of those places are 3-4 grand a week with plane flight. The Grand Bavaro a little more.
The Hard Rock resort is pretty good in Punta Cana and is more of a young scene.
Dominican is a very good place to go if you just want to chill. Not a ton of things to do outside of the resort. There are excursions but its not like Bahamas or Turks where you can go off the reservation and explore.
WE have also been to
Bahamas
St Lucis
St Croix
Turks
Jamaica
Aruba
St Thomas
Cancun.
St Lucia was a huge honeymoon place. We stayed at Sandals there and every single person but us was on their honeymoon. LOL. Very expensive though

we just got back from 6 days at El Dorado Royale in Rivera Maya.
I cannot say enough about how much i loved that place. we've been to carribean 3x as a couple, and have been 5x myself and i can't see myself really needing to try out anything else, at least on the yucatan peninsula.
i greatly enjoyed Aruba and Cozumel. Would not return to Jamaica.

Thanks for all the info!
Everything I just read up on Excellence made it look awesome.

frick anything in Mexico.
It all depends on what you want out of it.
If you like to swim/scuba, Curcauo, St Croix and Grand Cayman are nice.
If you want to gamble, Aruba, St Kitts, Grand Bahaman or Puerto Rico (but I wouldn't recommend Puerto Rico for any other reason.)
Best Beaches...you have to mention Punta Cana, but the DR is connected to Haiti and frick aids. Grand Cayman beaches are really nice. Aruba beaches are like NC beaches, lots of rocks and small shoreline. The Marriott Renaissance there has a private island though that they ferry you out to it, and that's alright. They have coves and hammocks, but the beaches are still small and there's no surf.

Excellence at Punta Cana was awesome. If you want to be lazy as all get out and eat a ton, it's a great place.

It seems like everyone is in agreement that Punta Cana is the bee's knees. My fiance's coworker even told her today how great of a time she had there. It's definitely at the top of my list now.

Yes, yes it was. We had a swim up room. That was cool. The surf is a little rough there since it is on the west end of the beach area. If you want to get in the ocean, it can be tough... LOL

My family frequents the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. It's a great time and has everything you could ever want. A bit pricey, but hey, gotta go lavish on a honeymoon!

It's really all about what your preferences are and what your budget is. I've been all over the Caribbean and Mexico and there are plusses and minuses to each.
For me the best place to go on a Honeymoon would be to go to Kauai which is the most beautiful place I have ever been, has perfect weather, is safe and is actually part of the US.
If I wasn't doing that I would go on a sailing trip in either the BVI, St Martin, or the Grenadines with a captain and cook which is absolutely epic but not cheap (though not as ridiculous as you might think).
Next up would be going to one of the outer islands of the Bahamas, probably the Abacos. Easy flight from Florida. Incredible beaches with calm, clear, shallow water. Great seafood. Very safe and not too crowded. Elbow Cay is amazing, just drive around in a golf cart or rent a boat for the day/week and tool around the islands. Not too expensive but not super cheap either.
The All Inclusive bit is always a decent and safe option. Great if you don't care about exploring and just want to hang out at the resort and eat, drink, and ... We did Sandals in Jamaica for our Honeymoon and it was great but it is important to remember that not all all inclusives are created equal by a longshot. I've stayed at half a dozen others and Sandals was the best of those. You end up spending a ton on stuff that isn't included though if you want to explore is the biggest negative, that and you are with a lot of other people which is good and bad.
The main thing about Mexico or DR that is good is the value for the money but it still isn't on the same quality level as some of those other islands. The best place I have stayed at on either for a couple is a small luxury hotel on Isla Mujeres off of Cancun called Villa Rolandi. That place was absolutely amazing and would be an off the charts honeymoon spot. Two person showers. Jacuzzi on your balcony. Great infinity edge pool overlooking the water. Incredible food and service and they will make a dinner on the beach for just the two of you that is incredible. Isla Mujeres is a cool little island that is a quick ferry from Cancun (they actually pick you up in their own boat) and you can drive around on a golf cart, very different than Cancun/Cozumel.
The BVI is awesome, especially Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, or Marina Cay. Check out the Bitter End Yacht Club, not cheap but really cool if you like to explore and be on the water.
