The All Inclusive bit is always a decent and safe option. Great if you don't care about exploring and just want to hang out at the resort and eat, drink, and ...

That's really what I think me and my fiancé are looking for.

It really is. The Grand Bavaro in DR really is a little better food and drink option. It's one of the reason we keep going back there.

My family frequents the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas

Been there. Would never go back. Every thing there is extra. Wifi, gym, food, service, everything.

Plus, everyday, thousands of people port there on cruise ships and flood the resort. fricking sucked. So crowded you cant even move. It was twice as expensive as other places and half as much fun.

Glad you guys liked it. I hated it and would not go back ever.

Wifi - $30 a day
Gym - $70 per week
Dinner - $60 a head.
Breakfast $50 a head

frick that place right in the . . . .

Has anyone been to the Bahamas and tried the new Chinese place yet? They were building it when we were there a few years back

We did Key West and it was fine.

Honestly, it beat the Bahamas to me.

I know you hate fishing on your vacations but do it here. maybe even lobster crab season. Rent a house in the lower keys, go to key west to party when you want to

last week in Riviera Maya, i kept trying to talk our group of four into it and absolutely nobody was interested.

i said "eff y'all, i'm going to hunt for el chapo, then"

instead i drank a whole lot at the pool.

My wife and I went to Puerto Viejo (Caribbean) and Jaco (Pacific) Costa Rica for 10 days. We had a great time.

For me the best place to go on a Honeymoon would be to go to Kauai which is the most beautiful place I have ever been, has perfect weather, is safe and is actually part of the US.

Kauai is great, but I can't imagine that flight a day or two after my wedding, especially coming from the Southeast. No thanks. When I got married, we were ready to get somewhere and unwind, so we did Sandals in The Bahamas. Short flight, couples only, and the place was pretty nice. Food wasn't much to write home about, but it wasn't terrible either. We just laid by the pool everyday and drank. I got so sick of Kalik beer, but that and Corona was all they had.

We did go to Atlantis one day to gamble, and that place looked miserable.

We looked at St Lucia, but the flight was pretty brutal as well. Something like 8 or 9 hours if I recall right. Bahamas was about 2 hours from Atlanta.

Occidental Grand Papagayo in Costa Rica was where my wife and I went. Got the upgraded "royal" package. All inclusive, within a 90 minute drive to all excursions and cool/quiet beach. We had a blast for 7 days. I went fishing twice, massages, jungle river cruise, ziplining and massages. Very close to Tamarindo for surfing. It was great.

Was in the Riviera Maya a few weeks ago for a dual family vacation at Dreams Tulum. Not generally a fan of the AI's but it works well for multi family trips because everyone can do what they want and no cooking or dishes.

That said, the highlight was going Deep Sea with my 11 year old son and watching him catch a Dorado/Mahi that was bigger than he was and we took it back to the resort that night where they cooked a special meal for both families. Great stuff.

Another fun fishing trip is spearfishing. If you go in Mexico you can use a speargun but in the Bahamas you have to use a "Hawaiian Sling" that is basically a slingshot with a spear. Both are a ton of fun though.

BTW, I don't even consider Nassau as "The Bahamas". It's like saying you have been to the United States when you have only been to New York City. The Outer Islands are so much better and the people are so much nicer. My favorite place for a family getaway if you just want to keep it low key is Spanish Wells off of Eleuthera. It's only 2 miles long with less than 2k people and no hotels (have to do a vacation rental). Almost everyone there is a descendant of a group similar to the Puritans that wrecked on Eleuthera a couple hundred years ago and they keep that place spotless and super safe, never locked my door. It also produces 90% of the lobster for the Bahamas on that tiny island and is the primary lobster supplier for Red Lobster, kind of feels like a New England fishing village. People actually treat you like a guest, we got invited to all kinds of local activities while we were there and had a blast. Oh, and it's stupid cheap. I got a 2 BR house on the beach with a golf cart and a 16' boat for the week for $2k.

No. If I remember well, its just a little over 4 hours from Atlanta. Nothing in the Caribbean is 9 hours.

Los Suenos by Marriott in CR is also really nice. You have rainforests and mountains behind you, a good golf course and black sand beaches
