Dude is an idiot.

Everyone knows that all Germans were manifestations of Satan that did pure evil just for the sake of doing evil.

It's like they woke up one day in 1933, looked in the mirror and said "Hans, what's the most evil thing I can do with my life?"

"I know, kill all the Jews and take over the world!"

and then they did it.

Your itchy trigger finger to call out anyone who isn't as soft on Nazism as you are is interesting to say the least...

Does he deserve to be tried and held accountable? Yeah, no escaping that.

Should he be tossed into a German prison and made to live off prison food at 93? Eh, THAT I think it may be a little late for. Still, his legacy and children and grandchildren will be made to carry the scar on their family name of that massive murder count. Dude's legacy is kaput, no matter how apologetic he was.

This. And not everyone was part of the ss. Also as a German toward the beginning of the conflict (rise of nazi party), you had YEARS to decide to leave. I have no sympathy for anyone involved period

I'm soft on Nazism? If I posted "frick him" to some dude on the internet who couldn't hear me and won't ever know I existed let alone what I think of him then I would be super-hard on Nazism? You're as ridiculous on life issues as you are on football.

But, see, it doesn't matter what they were thinking or what their plans were. They committed genocide.

is that too much for being involved in the death of millions of Jews?

You realize a lot of these fricking people had their families disappear in the night for this kind of shite, right? You understand what it's like to die knowing you were the reason your children, wife and rest of your family were killed, right?

It's always fricking easy when you're not the one actively doing it, but if I had to pick between my kids and my own future -- I'd pick my kids every time.

Like I said, it sucks all around, and the question isn't that goddamn easy to answer.

The question for me isn't why are they prosecuting him. I get that. It's why now?

The guy hasn't been in hiding.

Ok, fair enough. It is easy to sit here in 2014 and judge them, I get that. But at what point do they shoulder the blame for murdering people? Civilians?

I think "just following orders" is not an excuse for what the Nazis did.

It was pretty obvious what was going to happen in Germany years before it came to ghettos. I have no sympathy fir anyone who stayed along for the ride until the late 30s only then to look back wishing otherwise. Everyone knew what was happening.

I find it weird that this board can accept a nuanced and complex narrative of the Civil War and express sympathy for the average Southern Soldier yet view World War Two in such black and white terms.

That's a very naive and idealistic view.

An SS at Auschwitz is definitely involved, whether he knew what he was doing or not.
