South Carolina grabs it's 2nd OL commitment today, with the pledge from Sandy Creek's (Tyrone, GA) Alan Knott. Knott (6-4, 265) is USC's 17th commitment for the 2013 class. Knott has offers from VT, UNC, Miami, South Florida, Louisville, Syracuse, UCF, ECU, USM, and South Alabama. He is slated as OG for the Gamecocks...

Both he and Knotts are 4* per ESPN...I am surprised that they both are rated higher with them than Park and King. I haven't been following either of those two's recruiting, and was surprised to see them pledge. Our OL recruiting and development makes what John Hunt do for us look so grade-school-ish....

Heard some people say that ESPNU only looks at film to rate recruits. I don't follow ESPNU much at all.

New commitment for South Carolina!
24/7 Sports 4* OLB Larenz Bryant has reportedly committed to USC today! Bryant (6-1, 210) has a 95 grade per 24/7Sports.com, and is the #4 OLB, the top NC prospect and 42nd overall prospect per 24/7Sports for the 2013 cycle. He is the rated 3rd ILB, the #2 NC overall prospect and 56th overall prospect per Rivals. Bryant is the 18th commitment for USC this cycle! Bryant picked USC over Alabama, FLorida, Michigan, VT, Clemson, UGA, Oklahoma, TAMU, UNC, among others......
Great news! This should put a closing exclamation point on our LB class for this cycle. A future LB group with Cedric Cooper, Matt Rolin, and Bryant will be sick!

Not sure whats been going on lately, maybe it truly is the win total and the obvious direction of our program but damn these last couple of years we have started out really strong on the recruiting trail. This never used to happen but 18/25 commits before July?

Bumping to get our recruiting thread back on the front page....with our Showcase Camp coming up this Monday, I expect us to see one of more commitments from top targets who attend....

While he won't commit this week, I do think that y'all lead and will probably land Brendan Langley on the 25th at this point.

Yeah I also have been reading about that....I thought he was wanting to play with a teammate though that recently committed to y'all, so I'm not putting a lot of weight on the prospects. Would be a great addition to our secondary for sure. At least we won't have to wait much longer to find out...
Other prospects that will be commitment candidates at our Showcase will be WR Mike Williams, WR Ky Priester, TE Jordan Davis, WR Alvin Bailey. Not all of them, but these are at the top of the list expected to make some noise.
DL Kelcy Griffin is also expected to make an appearance, as well as WR DeMarcus Robinson. Still another WR Taj Williams was expected to come and would have been a candidate, but had to cancel due to a death in the family.
Our Showcase this year will mostly have prospects already committed to us for '13, and prospects for the '14 and '15 classes.

There's something up between Langley and the UGA staff. We went from #1 to out of his top 3 out of the blue and while he claims the "situation" has been smoothed over, I think both parties have kind of moved on.

Smith kind of came out of left field....there was really little chatter on the intewebz about him that I could find...
He's got quite a decent offer list, and was AP First Team All State RB as a junior in FL at the highest level, I think (8A). He ran for 2,178 yards and 24 TDs in 14 games last season.
Smith is more like the type RB we seem to be going for these days....perhaps the idea is that it fits what we're trying to do with the zone-read: fairly bigger, 6-0+, 200+ RBs with decent speed and above-average power.
Since we've gotten Lattimore, all the backs we've brought in - Wilds, Salley, Davis - all are in this mold. The lone exception was Shon Carson, who's 5-8, 192 and more of a speedster (sub-4.4 40 back)...

I see that USC is in competition with South Carolina for the services of (Rivals ****) Louisville, KY DE Jason Hatcher.
USC, South Carolina, Louisville and Tennessee are his leaders. We've only got two spots left, so he must be pretty good if we're thinking of closing out our class with him.
What do y'all know about him?

Carolina isn't seriously in it for Hatcher. He had interest early but don't think there's been any serious contact for a while. Pretty sure he didn't end up ever visiting and I don't think the staff made a huge effort with him given how many DE/OLB type guys SC picked up in the spring and with how tight the numbers are for this class.
