Does anyone know if those loss of 6 scholarships kick in this recruiting cycle or the next? And is it 6 over 2 years or over 3?

Pharoh Cooper, (247 3 star WR) from Havelock, NC just committed.

He had offers from South Carolina, ECU, and NC State.

Wow, I am impressed with the early haul we have had today. Every year the early commit numbers (before August) grows and grows and grows.

- Reduction of total football scholarships by three (from 85 maximum) during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.

(this means we can only have 82 football scholarship players total on the roster during those years)

- Reduction of initial football scholarships by three (from the 25 maximum) during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years (self-imposed by the university).

(This means we can only have 22 scholarship football players sign with us each of those years, providing they do not violate the above reduction to total scholarships)

Was a great day picking up 3. With a weak in-state class this year its great to see us going to other states and getting these guys. Really need to get Rolin and Bryant then this class will deliver ( on paper ) more than anyone thought it would this year.

Kudos to the staff.

Apparently WR Corey Cooper is on his way to Columbia to visit with the coaches....he was scheduled to make a commitment sometime in July, but tweeted that he will commit today if the coaches will take it.

Corey is apparently not that high up on our board for WR right now, so it may be a "wait and see" deal with him....other than Mike Williams, who has us as a leader, the other WRs seem to have us as an interest, but not high.

If we don't take Cooper's commitment, then our coaches may feel we still have some time to make some inroads with some of the other prospects this summer. I'm reading that we're only taking 2 possible WRs for this class not counting any over-signs, with Williams surely being a take for one spot...

Zach Bradshaw out of Maryland is a guy that's been thrown around as the most likely 2nd WR with Williams at this point, assuming the staff holds off on taking Cooper.

Was just about to post this but you beat me to it, big pickup. If we can get Bryant that would fill our big need at LB.

Yeah not that its the most important thing in the world but the guy had offers from "power" schools across the nation from Oklahoma, to ND, to Michigan, Ohio St., UF, FSU etc. so he must be damn talented.

ATH Ali Groves has committed to South Carolina, making him the 14th commitment for the Gamecocks. Groves (5-11, 180), who was recruited as a CB, chose USC over a total of 12 offers, including UF, Illinois, Ole Miss, Missouri, UK, Pitt, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest among others.

With Groves' commitment, USC's 2013 recruiting class moves to 8th nationally per 24/7sports.com

Never heard of him, and didn't know he had a UF offer. Nice pickup though.

on Alfy HillI was sad as hell to see the NCAA win in the battle he went through but glad to see him back in the SEC, will be a nice replacement for Ingram, the one Spring he went through at Bama before he was declarein not eligible he came in and instantly was wreckin shite so I know he'll be a great addition, read where he had gained about 30 lbs and was at 270 and still ran in the high 4.5 range, he's still really athletic it sounds like, but Congrats guys hope he does well

Also now reported that former 2010 commitment and Calhoun County LB Brandon Golson has apparently committed:

quote:

#15 may not be far behind. A source said Tuesday night LB Brandon Golson of Georgia Military JC is ready to commit to the Gamecocks. Golson contacted his Gamecock recruiter Joe Robinson Tuesday night and told him of his decision. Golson plans to visit USC Wednesday. The source said the Gamecocks are willing to take Golson's commitment. Golson also has offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Arizona, Ole Miss and Middle Tennessee State. He had 24 tackles with 7 sacks last season. Golson prepped at Calhoun County and originally signed with USC out of high school.

Apparently Golson went ahead as planned and committed today on his visit, and the USC coaches have accepted.

Golson's story is a unique one...he was a
sleeper" prospect for USC ever since the summertime in 2009 when he worked out in person for then-DC and LB coach Ellis Johnson for 20 minutes, and Johnson offered him on the spot. In his junior year in high school, Golson played his first year of organized football but only played 6 games due to having that year ended from injuries sustained in an auto accident. In those 6 games, Golson reportedly recorded 76 tackles and 18 QB sacks. By the time his high school career was done at Calhoun County, Golson had totaled 48 sacks and 191 tackles. In only 20 career games!

Fast & Furious: Brandon Golson

Golson was all set to sign with USC, but his test scores were too low, and he had to go the prep school route. Then in 2011, USC admissions found a discrepancy with his test scores and it would not allow him to enroll mid-term, so Golson ended up enrolling at Louisville instead (Miami was also in the running).

But then the NCAA Clearinghouse red-flagged those same test scores, so Golson had no other choice but to go the JUCO route, and attended Georgia Military College.

Now 6-2 and 230-240, Golson had 17 sacks in 10 games at GMC in '11. Her is some highlight video:
