Hiring Gus would be the functional equivalent of hiring Kevin Sumlin.
Indeed.
Remind me when Sumlin won the West or was the OC for a national championship winning team.
Cam or not, dude has had success. Way more than Rumlin.

How in the heck can some people be so fricking unreasonable and not use basic logic.
Good Lord folks, it doesn't take a genius to see that if Malzahn can only achieve what he has at Auburn with a much better recruiting base and higher expectations that we have here.. .how in the name of Beelzebub would he achieve the same or more with a lesser recruiting base and lesser expectations.
Please let go of the fricking moronic rope.
as for Leach... Razorbronks and I have different folks we get info from. Late last night I was told that Leaches rep was contacted by some of our BOT, NOT LONG... and that following that conversation, Long was brought in with some major doubts about going that direction, as were others.
If Leach were the one being considered, his rep made it clear that he wouldn't sign a contract full of clauses protecting the UofA that he feels is insulting and beneath him.
One last caveat... Consider this. Auburn fans are literally begging us to take Malzahn. Planting seeds of desire for all desperate and evidently lite in the intellectual quotient hog fan's heads.
Do we really want to hire whom they absolutely despise? Can we not do better than this?
If not, we need to turn in our season tickets, along with our fan cards and STHU!
for those who say, "He is the best we can get" is that how you chose your wife?
God Help Her!

I'll believe it when I see it.
Rivals board was talking about some significant uproar in the boxes on Saturday. Specifically Stephens and the Broyles box.
I think it's pretty clear the wheels are in motion, just a matter of who, not if.
We won't win a SEC game, that much is clear.

This is what we need to do if we don't believe a coach, who has made it to the national title game with another school in the same division, can't be successful at Arkansas.

I don't judge Gus based on what he did calling plays for one of the most dynamic players in college football history. Instead, I judge him based on what he's done without him.
A lot of top 10 recruiting classes, and a lot of 8-5 records. Thus, the Sumlin comparison.

You mean actually winning the conference? I'm only in my 30s so I don't know what that's like.

That 2013 year was a freak occurrence. He hasn't won more than 8 since then. Unlikely for that to change with Bama and Georgia left on their schedule, although 9-4 is possible I guess.

lets take an anomaly and make it the average, shall we?
Dude, come on now... and no, he cant, wont do it at Arkansas, because we can do better.... Right? Do you think Gus is the best coach little ole Arkansas can get? I sure don't!

Yeah I've heard. Along with 2010. Next you tell me how Auburn is a blueblood program where wins and recruits just fall from the sky onto your lap.
Every team that wins a championship has some luck along the way. That doesn't diminish the ability it takes to put your team in position to capitalize on that luck.

Ladies and Gents, this is what the Auburn fans think of the man some of you believe, is the best coach we can hire...
Enjoy...

I don't know if he's the best we can get. I think he runs a very low risk of being a bust, though.

Outside of the #23 class in 2008, the lowest class they've recruited since 2006 is #11. Didn't go back any further. So yes, recruits do fall in their lap.

I'm not saying he didn't do a good job in 2013 or 2010. But with top 10 recruiting classes the past three years his best is 8-5. Is that seriously not a red flag for you?

Nice strawman. Literally no one has said that. You just have some people saying Gus would be a good fit. Give him a 4 year contract and see what he can do. No one is saying he's the best we could ever get or that he will be a lifer here. He's worth a shot though because we have nothing to lose and he's obviously better than what we have now.

Malzahn is not the answers folks. He's gone 8-5 and 7-6 in 15 and 16 with top 10 recruiting classes... His offense requires dymanic talent to be successful.
Whomever is the next coach... You MUST have a hard nosed guy who truly holds players accountable for their on field play and preaches mental toughness, situational football, and most of all competition.
Petrino did it, Belichick does it, Saban does it....and although I'm not 100% behind the hire... Mike Leach does it.
Bert does non of those things.
I love the Kiffin idea so much, but I also don't know how much he emphasizes a lot of those things. If Saban rubbed off on him enough, then absolutely bring him in.

Porcine, do you have any coaches that interest you?

I've stated in other threads that I don't think he's the perfect coach. What I argue with is people saying it's insane to think he could do a good job at Arkansas.
Literally every other candidate has things you could consider red flags as well. Unless you're telling me we are about to steal Saban, I'm not crossing anyone off of the list for not having a flawless resume.
The red flags with Gus are relatively mild, while his achievements are as good as, of not better, than anyone else being mentioned.
And yes he has had talent to work with, but I also take into account where that program was when he took over. I don't buy the line that Auburn is a super easy place to win at. It's definitely well behind Bama and LSU as far as ease of winning. Ahead of Arkansas, yes, but not to the extent some are making it out to be.
