Still like Campbell and Brohm, mostly Campbell. Though he's probably at the top of a lot of teams' lists. They don't have a lot of ties to the South, but both have shown they can maximize their talent. I mean, Campbell has fricking Iowa State ranked.

the man some of you believe, is the best coach we can hire...

Nice strawman. Literally no one has said that.

Really- how is that any different than the below? And it’s very damn close to just about all arguments in favor of him.

quote:

But he's the best option out there that would come, has ties and has had success in the SEC and the south recruiting.

I want a coach that insists on a great running game and emphasizes defense...

Anyone out there that fits the bill, because those are the guys competing for championships, not just 8-10 win seasons

Hey Nugget.... STLhog said,

So when you say,

Literally no one has said that. You just have some people saying Gus would be a good fit.

Do you mean to leave some folks out?

Ok, carry on....

shite, all this bitching and complaining about mediocrity and all you want is better than Bielema?

It was said Arkansas was settling for mediocrity with Nutt for his 7-9 win average seasons.

Yet the guy on the top of most peoples list either averages 8-5 with top ten recruiting classes or was losing to FCS schools at home in year 5, while justifying it as "they would win 7-9 games a year for sure"...

That's different than saying he's the best coach we could possibly hire. We could probably get James Franklin if we offer him $10 million a year.

keep on reaching... not hard to understand what he said, because the words are right freaking there.

He believes that GM is the best option that WOULD COME HERE>

I'm looking at Toledo as well

There's obviously risk involved, but if you wait too long on up and coming guys someone else will snatch them. It's not a sure thing, but I don't see many established guys that we could realistically get that are attractive at the moment. Then again most people would have said we couldn't have gotten Bielema.

The red flags with Gus are relatively mild, while his achievements are as good as, of not better, than anyone else being mentioned.

And yes he has had talent to work with, but I also take into account where that program was when he took over. I don't buy the line that Auburn is a super easy place to win at. It's definitely well behind Bama and LSU as far as ease of winning. Ahead of Arkansas, yes, but not to the extent some are making it out to be.

Auburn is a lot closer to LSU than us

We just view it differently, but failing to win more than 8 over that span with top tier talent is too much of a stain for me. I also worry about his ability to develop a QB, which is a luxury we've had the past 9 years.

Also, I don't think the situation he took over is as bad as it's made out to be. They were undisciplined due to Chrizik and tried to switch to a pro-style offense without the right personnel. If they had stuck with a similar spread run scheme they wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

Nutt's available right now for cheap. Why get a knockoff?

Seriously, do we want to put the GOBN back together? Again, we need to hire someone with Texas recruiting ties.

ohhh, I don't know.. James Franklin?

seriously, I don't know and neither do you. But surely both of us believe we are capable of getting better than Gus. I've been busting your chops, and I should apologize.

But with that said. I really don't want the drama back from GM and the Floyd disciples etal.

Would love to have Gundy, Richt possibly, although he may be no better than gus in coaching, but a better representative of the UofA perhaps.

I hate to say it, but Kiffen?

We need someone with deep south ties. Preferably Texas. From a location standpoint it just makes sense.
