They turned it on down the stretch.
Just wondering when these goal posts are going to quit moving.

On certain throws QB's are taught to grab the ball and throw as quick as possible. That's not just a Gus thing. That's pretty much every QB past Pop Warner football. Every QB in the NFL will make throws w/o the laces. Edit to add this is primarily done to make quick throws out of the gun. Dropping back you usually have time to find the laces.
I remember this coming up last year. I'd never heard of it before. Marshall often threw without holding the laces.

Frick Nick marshall I'm so glad his arse gone. JJ probably be a first round pick but since we're DBU I ain't worried about him throwing the ball on LSU.

They were the same team at the end of the years, as they were when they played AU. They had QB issues and if you could pass on them, you could beat them by double digits. They are getting a lot of credit for beating a reeling LSU Team (that could not throw the ball) and an injured and down Ole Miss team. If you remember Sims was barely .500 passing against them that night, and ARK DL stopped the run.

Who cares what bama did against the pigs, is the title of the thread HOW BAMA DID AGAINST THE PIGS DEFENSE WHICH IS RANKED HIGHER, lol quit seriously. Hell let's bring in the iron bowl , we won !! yay. See how stupid that is?
Not really. You're talking shite, saying that JJ hasn't faced any real competition. Meanwhile, you don't acknowledge the fact that he carved up a defense that your team struggled against, a top 10 defense in the country. Either you're an idiot, or you're just doing the typical bammer deflection because something doesn't fit your agenda.
Negative I gave him props for doing well but things that are unknown are how he is affected by an actual pressured moments, and having to make those deep passes in said situation. Don't turn this into a barn getting defensive BS or Bama didn't do as good. Take the complement and realize not a single down has been played so there will be things you just don't know.

Obviously you don't know much about QB'ing outside of throwing in your back yard
Played QB in HS. Admittedly, that's not at Marshall's level, but I've thrown a ball in places other than my back yard.

No kidding? New information to the masses! Thanks!
Arm angle typically indicates whether or not a QB is in "catch & release" mode or not. Marshall's angle and stance in each of the three pics indicate he is in his drop (i.e. - NOT catch and release throws).

In Gun on deep routes you also have time to find laces.
My entire point was that Marshall isn't your typical QB in the way he holds (or doesn't hold) laces. By comparison, here's Jeremy Johnson:
Laces, laces, laces
Look up images of almost any QB throwing. Ball placement is consistent in the vast majority. Marshall is the exception.

Cool story, so 2 deep passes.... I don't have the time but maybe you know. Were the 49 yard and 62 yard in the air while in stride while under pressure? That is my point, stop acting like I am bashing the dude after I complemented on a good game.

I think a better representation of what you will see out of JJ passing game, is from the A-Day Game. Remember it was Duke's first real college football experience in the Ark game. AU did not run the same routes by the end of the year.

It feels weird arguing with AU fans requiring you to sound as if you are downing your current QB because they are downing the past QB.
The laces argument is insane. Every QB in the world has a certain way the prefer to hold the ball. Under center the center will adjust the ball so it is snapped into that position in the QB's hands. On shotgun snaps they are attempting to snap it so the same thing happens but it is a larger margin of error.
What JJ did against Arkansas in the 1st half was strong, but it wasn't what I consider to be a pressure situation. We will find out soon enough if he has "it". I am hopeful he does. However, we only know one thing for sure. NM has "it."

I think you are misinterpreting the arguments, at least from what I have read anyway. I admit I didn't go through all the posts so if there are any AU fans being critical of Nick are dumb. NM was a spectacular QB and did some crazy stuff with that ball passing and running. Last years team had several issues of why we lost so many and he isn't one of them.
You are choosing the wait and see argument and others, including myself feel confident in JJ to say he will replace Marshall just fine to win games.
If JJ leads AU to a lot of wins and never had to make a big play under extreme conditions or pressure, I would say he replaced Marshall just fine. Although, we know what teams we play and know he will be faced with plenty of pressure situations. I and others say he will perform, and you and others say let's see, I hope so.
No biggie, I don't need you to agree with me to feel good about my prediction for JJ. I can't speak for the others though.

If he doesn't have to make a play under extreme pressure then either A) the rest of your team is playing incredible and JJ isn't being asked to do "too much", or B) the rest of the team is playing poorly and JJ isn't in a position to make a play under extreme pressure.
I think AU will be a much improved team on D this year and, personally, feel like JJ is a vastly better QB than Marshall in terms of his ceiling. Marshall concerned me with his legs and his deep ball. JJ concerns me on every snap b/c if he develops into what he CAN be, then he's going to be scary good.

The fact that CGM took a defensive back from Georgia and put him in a position within the offense to excel is also credit to him. Now he is taking a linebacker from Remember the Titans and molding an offense around him. CGM is a mad scientist.

You're right, he actually took his team to the NC.

Agreed. However, the most important aspect of a QB is how the perform under pressure. It has separated a lot of talented QB's from the ones that are great. With Gus' mind, JJ's skills and the rest of the talent on O I suspect he is going to be fine.

Here is the shock factor JJ runs a 4.51 forty.Marshall a 4.53 and Newton a 4.58.He was Mr Football and Mr Basketball so Im sure he has some agility and can run when he has to.With a battering ram running back they dont need a duel threat qb Robinson can fall forward for three yards each carry. They will use Marshall set out of the wildcat with either Jason Smith or Kerryon Johnson. Auburn WRs lived wide open,Johnson wont miss.Id be very afraid of this offense.Defense in reality only needs to be slightly better.
