A lot of those late bullets were because Marshall had a problem reading his progressions too. From what I've seen from JJ, he goes through his reads much faster. Not to mention, he is a lot taller than Marshall and can see over the line. And he probably won't be getting near the amount of balls batted down at the LOS.

It doesn't take away what Marshall did for us over the past two season to say that JJ will be an upgrade at QB. Marshall played his heart out, and I'll always be a fan of him.

Actually what you are saying does take away from what he did at QB. NM was short, shorter QB's get balls batted. You have no idea how JJ will progress through reads in the heat of a battle because he hasn't had to do it yet when anything was on the line. I expect him to be fine but you don't know, nor do I. NM also made a lot of plays with his feet. I am not talking about picking up a few yards and first down when the rest of the defense is 40 yards down field. I am talking about plays that very few QB's in history can make and JJ is not a statue but he isn't NM either. The strong arm and accuracy will be an upgrade but he lacks things NM did which brought a lot of pressure on a defense. Many would argue pressure defenses weren't used to in this day and age. Truth be told almost everybody has a QB who can sling it now a days.

The job of the QB is to win games. If we manage to keep JJ for 2 years he will need to beat 20-7 and win a SEC title and do everything possible to win a national title. If you can't see how hard that is going to be to replicate I can't help you. To JJ's side he should have a better defense to work with than NM. Of course that might actually work against him because it will show NM was working with less.

No crap. That's exactly what I said.

You mean like playing against a divisional rival in your conference? I could've sworn that was JJ that threw for almost 300 yards in the first half against Arkansas last year. Must have been mistaken.

Last I checked, football was a team sport. Johnny Football was awesome but didn't win shite. Doesn't mean he wasn't a great QB.

I think most people believe JJ will be awesome and also be a much better passer than Nick. But to ignore what Nick Marshall did in our system at Auburn is just pure dumb

The comparison to Kodi Burns at QB is worth a good kick in the arse

I think JJ has everything a QB needs to be excellent. The one thing that I am nervous about is when the game is down to the wire and we need a score with less than 2 min left, there is no way to know how JJ will handle that pressure, Nick had ice water in his veins and never got rattled

What you saw in JJ in that game, was the ability to throw the ball in small windows. Something that we heard all year he was doing in practice. Marshall was given control of the team based on his performance in 2013, but reports out of practice was JJ had command of the passing game head and shoulders above Nick. Nick never struggled enough for Gus to replace him. Most of his issues were because he was pressed to perform due to the performance of AUs Defense.

I think JJ played great in that game. Most of his passes if you watch were either A. Super short, or misdirection designed stuff. Although nothing wrong with that it did not display any kind of distress play or pressure for the deep pass. He will be good this year no doubt. However, the stuff we cannot tell now may surface.

A. Super short,
So a 25 yard bullet over the middle of the field is now considered "super short"?

BTW, Arkansas was 7-6 and came within a blocked XP of taking your beloved tahd into OT. Bama math strikes again.

OMG one pass of 25 yards. Where is the deep ball which is what I was getting at, where is the distress. Oh wait there is none because its Arkansas. Oh my 7-6 apologies for not getting the Texas Win in there.

Beat the pigs, beat the barn. anyway.

Once again, with a better defense than uat. A defense that your team only managed 14 points against all game. Meanwhile, JJ carved them up and scored 21 in the 1st half.

Do yourself a favor and stop reaching for the sky, I complemented your boy and now you want to show a gif of one 25 yard pass against a subpar opponent.

Who cares what bama did against the pigs, is the title of the thread HOW BAMA DID AGAINST THE PIGS DEFENSE WHICH IS RANKED HIGHER, lol quit seriously. Hell let's bring in the iron bowl , we won !! yay. See how stupid that is? Then comes but the 6 six 2 years ago. Never ends with you people, stay on topic.

His ability to complete passes after he had already crossed the line of scrimmage was unparalleled. Auburn is really going to miss that.

Are you trying to insinuate that this is an illegal pass? if so, might want to learn the rules

Interesting side note that may have been covered (I'm not reading all 5 pages to find out):

You posted 3 pics of Nick Marshall throwing. He has a different lace position in each pic. Not sure it matters, but found it kind of interesting as many QBs prefer the ball to be in same spot in their hand with laces consistent on every throw.

This thread has been enjoyable, despite the typical Iron Bowl bickering.

Another factor that limited Marshall's passing game was his height. Most of his Int's were deflected passes at the LOS. JJ is able to stand tall in the pocket and make throws into small windows. If you remember Gus's first year as the OC, Chris Todd was not very mobile. He also had a shoulder injury that prevented him from throw the ball 15 yards down field.

Not really. You're talking shite, saying that JJ hasn't faced any real competition. Meanwhile, you don't acknowledge the fact that he carved up a defense that your team struggled against, a top 10 defense in the country. Either you're an idiot, or you're just doing the typical bammer deflection because something doesn't fit your agenda.

Obviously you don't know much about QB'ing outside of throwing in your back yard. On certain throws QB's are taught to grab the ball and throw as quick as possible. That's not just a Gus thing. That's pretty much every QB past Pop Warner football. Every QB in the NFL will make throws w/o the laces.

Edit to add this is primarily done to make quick throws out of the gun. Dropping back you usually have time to find the laces.

I think most people, including the most Gump of Gumps and Boog of Boogs, know that the Arkansas team that played Auburn was far different from the one that played Alabama. They turned it on down the stretch.
