He only attempted 3 before the LSU game. 2 were over 50 yards. He hit 1 from 45. Not too many NFL kickers going to hit those consistently.
So perhaps saban should have been more conservative like miles

did you see the stats and take the point?
If he was trying 40 plus yard field goals... and is only 2 of 9 on those for the year... it is not exactly a surprise when bama makes 2 of 5 attempts (one block doesn't count against kicker IMO)

if you're so much better, why worry about it?
Basically, the last game that LSU and Alabama played means nothing.
Now, Alabama gets a mulligan...a do-over, and this time the national championship is on the line.
It would be stupid if Alabama won to crown them the national champion while LSU finishes 13-1 and Alabama finishes 12-1, with both of their losses being to each other. Not-to-mention, LSU would have beaten Alabama at their house while the national championship is at a neutral site, plus LSU would have one more win against Georgia (assuming they win), and an SEC Championship.
It would make literally no sense in the world for the college football season to end like that.

That's what I said. First field goal ok. After that punt deep.

He wasn't 2 for 9 by the time of the LSU game. He was 1 for 3. Hit one 45 yarder and missed two 53 yarders before LSU. Don't know many NFL kickers nailing 53 yarders consistently.

It might not make any sense but that's the way the conference commissioners designed it. They realized some years the best two teams might come from the same conference.
LSU is playing for the SECC this weekend. I would rather Bama be in that position than sitting at home so enjoy it. Unless LSU were to get blown out, the game won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

I agree, had CNS done this we may have had a different outcome. As it is, I think LSU got Bama's best shot and still won the contest. Bama's best shot was not good enough. I am hopeful for a rematch, as I think LSU will be better prepaired, and dominate.
LSU 28
UA 13

For all your brilliant analysis, LSU didn't exactly dominate either....you won be a field goal in OT
..and you still have to do it a second time to get the crystal

I don't agree. There were many drives around the LSU 30 that stalled out due to stupid penalties. Bama had 12 plays from scrimmage 10 yards or over. LSU only 5.
The decision to get greedy on the long FGs flipped the field and Wing saved LSU's arse when he hit the 73 yarder.
I don't think Saban gets as greedy the next time.

True! noted, poor coaching decision.

True! LSU has great special team play and has all season. This type of performance by Wing has become the norm.

True again!
CNS will need an effective virtical passing game as Bama will be playing from behind...Good luck with that.

the outcome was never in doubt after the beginning of Q4, exactly like every other LSU game this year.
I felt the exact same way. Once the Tigers weathered the storm our depth took over. And not one team has that advantage over LSU.

quote:As I said, they had every fumble, interception and call (but one) go there way. And it was precisely that 'help' that put them in position to kick every one of those 40+ FG tries. LSU had every fumble, interception and call (but one) go against them, yet, as you point out, they drove the ball to the Alabama 2 yard line and equalled Alabama's score through 3 quarters. Why? Because LSU overcame those setbacks by outplaying Alabama .
LSU kicked a FG in the 2nd quarter. That was after they drove the ball to the Bama 2 also. So Bama didn't have everything going for them in the first 3 quarters.
quote:
LSU - 2 INTs. 1 FG.
Bama - 2 INTs. 1 FG.
The entire point is, through 3 quarters, it was:
LSU - 2 INTs
Alabama - 0 INTs
quote:Your coach was so confident in his team's offensive performance that he took the ball out of his QB's hands and let his RB throw the wildcat pass - a pass that is ALWAYS a floater no matter who's RB is throwing - there is a reason the guy is NOT the QB after all - against the fastest defense in the country. For 30 yards. Smells of desperation and frustration to me.
In the 4th quarter Bama drove deep into LSU territory only to have the Maze pass picked off so the wheels weren't falling off.
quote:I said in retrospect. The retrospect that showed that Alabama had zero chance of hanging with LSU in OT. As I said, last three possessions - that's 12 plays - and only 2 of them for positive yardage, including ZERO in OT.
If the game was never in doubt why was 6-6 at the end of regulation?

You had 56 more yards. Not really a big deal, but it is much better than your next two...
You had a 12 second advantage in time of possession. 12 seconds. Are you really trying to use this as evidence that Alabama outplayed LSU?
You had two more first downs. Claiming this as evidence is only slightly more insane than claiming the 12 second advantage in time of possession.

This is all getting mind-numbing.
I think everyone should just admit that both teams are VERY evenly matched. Bama is a GREAT football team as is LSU.
The problem is that either team could win, and this is troubling to me and most LSU fans because giving Bama a second chance after losing at home just seems like punishing LSU by making them play a great team that they went to war with and beat.
Bama's team and fans should understand this sentiment, but most will say it's fear of the mighty Tide. I look at it as respect for a great team and program. And because of this respect I have no problem giving them another shot, but do think it's a tough break for LSU because Bama has proven it can play with LSU.
It will be decided in the end whether the rematch occurs or not. Bama just gets a shot at redemption a second chance, but if LSU loses they don't get another shot which to me is the biggest injustice.
