JW may not had made his mind up or they weren't sure how fast he would recover

Anyone around campus with eyes could see he wasn't going to see the field for a long, long time from the second he got hurt. You don't just look at an ACL tear and thing, "Hmmm..... Maybe he'll be back in a couple weeks. Let's wait and see how this thing heals over the next few days."

Dude could barely get around.

I really don't get it... marshall has come in and done everything we've asked of him. Obviously there are areas than need improvement, but how man first time starters make this kind of impact with two weeks of preseason practice?

He's played one really bad half of football down in a freaking monsoon in Baton Rouge... he's played winning football the rest of the time, imo.

Agreed, but I will admit I am anxious to see JJ play too, but NM has done a very solid job. So I can wait.

If JJ as a true freshman who got on campus after him was able to push Marshall for the job, it gets me giddy with excitement to think about how good he could be.

Also, JJ adds a dynamic that Marshall doesn't which is that inside power running presence. Adds a whole different dynamic when the QB can be a threat inside and out plus as a passer. Nick right now isn't an inside running threat.

Finally, I will just be excited when we have a QB who can be accurate which we haven't truly had in awhile. Even Cam floated some passes high and missed open guys

Regardless

People obsessed with recruiting are always expecting the next guy to be better than the current because they are emotionally invested in them and they haven't had the chance to make any mistakes. Thus the starter is competing with an idealized version of the back up.

I love the sound of the players attitudes gents.

This is such a big departure from last year.

quote:

“It feels like a whole new team, a whole new Auburn team,” defensive back Robenson Therezie said. “We just keep going up -- just like Coach Malzahn talks about.”

Said offensive tackle Greg Robinson: "We really see that we have a chance. The better we get, the more work we put in, and we’ll continue to get better each week. We're just listening to what the coaches say, because they really have our best interests. I think we just need to buy into the fact that we have to get better each week to be able to beat the harder teams we play later on in the year."

I've passed the point of no return.

Just bought my tickets, and I'm gonna be blowing a few hundred dollars on gas to get down there. We better have something of a chance or I will be the epitome of a depressibarner

I'm waiting to see how A&M does against Ole Miss this weekend before thinking we have a realistic shot.... but any team with a defense as bad as A&M's has a chance of being upset in just about every game they play.

Yep, I got a feeling Ole Miss may upset A&M this week.

I don't think there is a real positive to playing JJ now if NM will be recovered fully by A&M or if JJ isn't way ahead of NM in practice. It burns JJ's RS and he loses 5 games he could have played in to gain experience. If he plays good, which he probably would against WCU, if would create a QB controversy where everyone would be calling for NM to be benched after every bad throw he makes. That would put even more pressure on him to make plays and likely lead to him playing worse. Nick is way better than what we had last year and plenty good enough to finish the season out with.

If NM can't go this week, I would rather see JW than JJ unless the coaches know JJ is better and are planning on giving him the starting job for the rest of the season no matter what.

JJ has reportedly gotten a lot of 1st team reps the past 3 weeks. I really don't know what it means but my best guess is they are making their final decision on whether to RS him or not. IF he plays I think that it will show that we will have another Qb battle going into next season. If he doesn't then that pretty much secures Marshall spot as the starter for 2014.

Random unrelated question to what's currently being talked about, but I didn't want to start a thread for it...

I'm new to DirecTV and with the game being PPV this weekend I was curious if anyone knew how much Direct will charge for it this weekend?
