Yeah but he wouldn't have near that kind of success here with our talent.
You think Malzahn would be 2-5 at Arkansas this year with our talent?

Saying he's done better than Bert is an incredible understatement, if he had that type of success at Arkansas we would build him a statue.
But he won't considering he has twice the talent to work with and barely does that.

I'm opposed to Gus as well.
IMO his shtick wouldn't work here.

Why are you making this a Bert vs. Gus thing. Everyone knows Gus is a better coach than Bert. Doesn't mean Gus is a good option.

So those players just magically wound up at Auburn? They fell in his lap?

Aw gee, I dunno. Maybe because we had the chance to hire Malzahn 5 years ago and now he beats the shite out of us every year and sets rushing records against our defense.

Yeah, he only got a lot of those players because he's at a blue blood. That's how it works.

I don't understand this thought process???
Just like liberals who hate Trump. They would wish ill will rather than be successful.

You think with equal coaches Auburn and Arkansas recruits on the same level?

I would agree but it isn't 5 years ago. We could hire a lot of people if your goal was just beating the shite out of Bert.

Now THIS is idiotic. The hot take right now is that we need a gimmicky offense to be successful due to our talent disparity with the rest of the league. Here's Malzahn with a gimmicky offense and ties to the area, but people don't want him because of dumb personal reasons.
The same people who said we should look the other way on Petrino's indiscretions don't want Malzahn because he ran the score up on their high school team 15 years ago.

They have the capability to recruit like one. They're probably in the tier right below, but they're in fertile recruiting territory and they have a good history.

I would be interested in hearing what Razorbronks is hearing. He said something last night about Leach I believe.
There's definite interest there from both parties, but I don't think it's gone much beyond that at this point. I think we've talked to his representation to see if he's even willing to leave, and from my understanding the answer was good as long as the job security, and not $$$ necessarily, is there. He's #1 in several big minds on The Hill, don't think his time at TTech is a factor.
ETA- apparently Leach's comments about WMS weren't the first compliments he's made regarding Arkansas/UA, not sure if he meant in a private or public setting.
He's supposedly "one of many" that have begun early stages of contact. There's also some good news and bad to go along with it...
The good news (aside from them beginning to reach out) is that they think CBB is putting out feelers himself and searching for a much more "low key" landing spot for he and his family until the baby is grown more. He wants more time with his family and less spotlight, the losses piling up are more of the last straw than the major reason.
Bad news - Long and co. are willing to keep him if they can't find the "near perfect" candidate and get him locked down. Long has several key factors he's looking for and thinks they have time and resources to be choosy. Something was said in a convo with Bob Stoops (?) that really impacted Long and made him ratchet up the quality of candidate he's seeking.
All bets are off should we finish the season with 8 or more losses, as JL wants to see that the team hasn't 100% quit on the coaches before the above decision is even remotely made. If the team completely quits we'll take the best option available and roll with it.

Auburn is a blue blood?
Blue bloods go 0-8 in conference play?
LOL.

I can't speak for others but that has nothing to do with my thoughts, he beat the shite out of my school but is impressive if nothing else.

I never thought we should have kept Petrino, my high school didn't even have a football team and the public school in my hometown didn't play them either. And I'd still rather cut off my pinkie than have Gus as the head coach.

With an 8-4 record (8-5 after the bowl), the SEC wasn't exactly good last year.

As long as the guy is willing to come in and go to war for our program sign me up.

I'd take Gus for sure.
We're not going to do better with less risk.
