Leach has a law degree, he's odd not insane, he knows himself well enough to know what clauses he's destined to breach in a contract... something the previous two hires in football were not able to see in the contract...
Gundy never wanted to leave osu, he's used his demand to create leverage against Boone and it's work out for him, no different than Nutt using the Nebraska plane on the tarmac for a 2 year pass...

I figured as much. Then leach would be my #1 right now. He checks every fricking box I have. He would be a grand slam hire imo.

I don't want this to happen but it will be real interesting to see how many of those t-shirt Auburn fans in the SOC last night are wearing Razorback gear if Gus is our coach.
I'll never understand being a fan of a coach, someone making millions to teach a game, over your alma mater or favorite program.
There was a pretty sizeable group of our fans rooting for Ole Miss when they came to town in 2008 because they were Houston Nutt fans.
Our fan base is just the fricking worst.

Agreed on Gundy, other than he would have absolutely left the last time. He and T. Boone were at major odds and it took a few other boosters to intervene and a new memorandum of understanding before he agreed to stay.
He was as good as gone, until that happened.

After Arkansas passed he moved on to Tennessee.
I don't think he was as good as gone, but OSU didn't call his bluff.
It was a win win for him, he goes and gets what he wants or he gets what he wants to stay.
People are putting too much stock in winning at wazzu, it isn't impossible to win there, other coaches have succeeded there and failed elsewhere in the past.

Gus would be a polarizing hire here. Not worth the turmoil. I'm not sold on his ability to recruit his type of players to Fayetteville.
We need someone with established ties to Texas.
Gundy, Leach, and even Briles would be able to run a dynamic offense and recruit enough Texas kids to start winning.

Exactly... they bent big time...
And it has worked out for him well. Another couple of bad seasons and it will be over again though.
Leach would win 8-9 games a year here within 2-3 years. I am not sure he would do much more than that. His defenses have been mediocre until recent. His recruiting would be lackluster in this are as well. But who's isn't.

It won't be Leach.
No major college team is going to hire Briles.
The major players are still the same, they will not agree on one guy, but they will agree the next coach has to have ties to the state and university, this pressure was here the last time on Long and he was able to sort of pass Bert off as being a direct line in the JFB coaching tree due to Fry.
Crowe-Kines-Ford all outsiders
Petrino-Jonelle-Bert all outsiders
I think many forget it was a committee that recommended Nutt to replace Ford, JFB wanted to hire Tuberville...

If it isn't leach because he isn't an arkansas boy then it means our major players have money, but it doesn't make them smart. It also means they don't know a damn thing about football.

The problem with a statement like this is that you are just automatically assuming Leach would want to come here in the first place. Not every single name we throw out is going to even remotely entertain an offer from Arkansas. Some folks just aren’t going to want to come here no matter what our big money folks do.
Posted on 10/23/17 at 1:00 am to TheCheshireHog
Not what I really meant by that statement.
I do not have any idea if leach would entertain the idea. I know we could pay more, have better facilities, could pay more for a staff.
Negatively our schedule is much tougher and I could see that being a big deterrent.
I didn't mean it really like that. I meant it more as, if we are not even entertaining the idea because he isn't "an arkansas guy" then I find our coach searching habits to be mighty foolish.
I agree with rev earlier that is an 8-9 win coach. Could sneak up and win 10 every once in a while. His style of offense would probably get destroyed by bama, but it would be fun. His team's play hard, they are well coached, and he is tough on his players.
There are probably names I haven't thought of that would be good. I am not narrowing my view of coaches to be only arkansas guys. It narrows the list substantially and the names are not very good in my estimation of what we need.
I want a proven builder. Someone who has built a program up from nothing. I don't see many arkansas guys who have done that. Gus built a defense at auburn, but that will never happen here. I do not want gus, but i would take him over what we have now. Norvell is winning with Fuentes guys and what he built for him. I guess kiffin has some links here. I wouldn't really be against him i guess. I'm sure I'm missing some.
In the end all I am saying is if we are only looking for "an arkansas guy" then be prepared for nutt 2.0. Bert is below nutt.

How can you not knock Kiffen for winning with someone else's players? That what he's done at all three of his HC jobs.
Leach is Nutt 2.0. Just because he used Little Rock to talk down to Oregon, which most saw as being the insult it was intended to be, doesn't mean loves LR...

How is he nutt 2.0? The guy has took 2 different schools that have a horrible history at football and turned them both into top 10 teams (yes I know he lost to cal but the fact that he had wazzu at 8 in the middle of the season speaks to his ability). He's always going to field a great offense that can score. He knows his identity. How is that anything like nutt

Clay Travis was on the radio this morning saying Arkansas would be insane not to go after Kiffin right now. He said, and I agree, that he should hire Kendall Briles as his OC and run the Baylor offense. With Kiffin as the Head recruiter and Briles Deeeep Texas ties, it would actually be a pretty good mix.
With Long here though I can't see that hire ever happening.....but damn would that be a fun Team to watch and root for... It would REALLY shake up the SEC
