Practice Report - LINK

Danny West @DannyWest1
I hear true freshman CB @RAE_Toliver5 had an INT in today's practice. Also, Fr. Santos Ramirez is working at boundary CB.

Randy Shannon says LB Otha Peters has had "an unbelievable summer," and has carried over the extra 'fire' he showed in spring ball.

Thomas Murphy @TomMurphyADG
Ark DC Robb Smith on today: We thudded up, got a great opportunity to go out there and start to establish our physicality as a defense.

Robb Smith is touting the defensive freshmen: "I think they're an athletic group overall. That's the one thing that's jumped out at us."

Smith on @BijhonJ: He's going to help us eat up some A gaps inside. He can dictate daylight in the center of our defense and that's crucial.

DBs coach Clay Jennings: Said CB C. Floyd had some good reps in 1 on 1 and CB Henre' Toliver had an INT in the final team period

Robbie Neiswanger @NWARobbie
DC Robb Smith on Trey Flowers: "He's not an outspoken guy, but when Trey Flowers says something everybody on our defense certainly listens."

Randy Shannon said TQ Coleman still at LB: "He's a very explosive guy. Not afraid of contact." Added Coleman brings versatility to position.

Arkansas plans to play more press coverage this year. What does it mean to cornerbacks? Here's secondary coach Clay Jennings. LINK /

Robb Smith said the DB who has stood out is Joshua Liddell at safety. Said he flashed today with the varsity. This is kid I kept saying UA should offer and loved. I think they are now very glad they offered him.

as long as we we can cover, jam up the LOS, and actually keep up with guys going down the field.

Seems simple enough.

Well his film certainly showed that he was an athlete that could do things guys on the roster the last couple seasons didn't have in them.

Thank God he didn't end up in the vast wasteland that is North East Arkansas

I am also really hoping that TQ Coleman can find his way at linebacker and decleat a few people.

wasn't there a stat last year that like 90% of all the offensive production came from freshmen?

It couldn't have been near that high. The only two freshman skill players that really contributed to the stat line were Collins and Henry.

Really had good things to say aobut Deatrich Wise and Tevin Beanum too. Beanum he said is just so smart.

I met Tevin and his family at Fan Day last August. Very nice, polite, well spoken kid who comes from a good family. I figured he'd probably redshirt, but I've been rooting for him since then.

- Hodge knew he needed to lose some weight and had to be depended upon this year, so he's lost some of that. He's always had great strength and improved on that this summer.

Isn't Hodge the one who squatted 700 a week or so ago in the video on here?

Mitch Smothers said that he upped his squat 50 pounds to 550 pounds over the summer. He's 150 pounds behind Hodge! Damn.

Is there any data out there that would tell me if a 550lb squat is good for an OL?

A 500lb squat for a 320lb OL is kinda weak actually and it's probably why his playing time keeps decreasing.

Yeah Carroll Washington said he's squatting over 400lbs at 190. 550 for an OL isn't great

I'm not quite understanding why there wasn't more of an emphasis on lower body strength earlier in these guys careers. Bielema and Herbet mentioned concentrating on lower body power when they got here because they needed some improvement in that area.

because Petrino/Veltkamp cared about finesse and "quickness" instead of heavy weight strength

Well yeah, then that definitely makes me think Mitch's lower body strength has been holding him back.

I know it's actually pretty personal, but it'd be cool if they'd at least list the top 3 lifters in each category or something, just for curiosity's sake.
