because Petrino/Veltkamp cared about finesse and "quickness" instead of heavy weight strength

I remember seeing people get all worked up about bench numbers under Veltkamp, all the while not realizing bench numbers don't mean crap. Squat means everything in football, especially on the lines where long arms are assets in play but liability when working maxing on bench press.

except squat is terrible on the knees. it's good for maxing and NCAAF but that shite will frick your knees over good.

it's definitely good for determining strength but not for long term success.

It's the most dangerous weight training.

ETA: razorback long distance runners hardly ever squat (outside of maxing) because of this, at least 6 years ago they don't.

Comparing the training regiments of cross country and 10k athletes to OL/DL is easily one of the more ridiculous things I've seen on this board.

But I ain't mad at ya. It's just universes apart.

dude your knees aren't meant to have that much weight on them. every once in awhile to gauge your strength is ok, but to train with them every other day will blow them out.

part of the reason acls are so high.

how is squatting universes apart, it's the same technique, if not more load/body weight than CC. joints aren't meant to handle that much weight.

American College of Sports Medicine study

Over the eight-week period, there was
no increased instability created relative to depth of the squat. Thus, squats do not negatively
affect knee stability.

Where's the evidence that squatting hurts the knees?

What would you suggest they do instead of squat?

no shite

I'm just saying over a career-length period squatting hurts more than it helps.

It helps with strength tremendously but career-ending injuries will follow.

I'm not saying squatting isn't a tremendous way to build muscle, (it is), but coaches or an eight week study won't tell me the dangers of squatting for 6 years.

I'd advocate longer training sessions, more practices, no NCAAF dead period.

for training, I'd suggest running along with adequate nutrient as apposed to squats.

current research is limited.

wtf are you talking about? You're assuming each squat is done perfectly.

1

no modern research has been done on squats.

anyway I'm excited to catch what I can of this season, all the herbalism has definitely helped.

I'm going to Canada tomorrow so I'll catch up in October-November when Arkansas dominates.

"no modern research has been done on squats. btw I am somehow certain that they will wreck your knees lol" also who gives a frick what long distance runners do for their training. There is no reason they would need to squat. They need endurance, not strength. Not the way football players need strength.
