Where the hell is this Stansbury talk coming from.....or are you just saying in general a coach of his caliber ?

Stansbury actually wasn't that bad at Miss St. But, his best recruiter all those years is the HC at Troy now. But a Stansbury type hire won't cut it with these kids today.

Bama needs a young, dynamic coach who "gets it." A Howland type hire isn't going to do it with these young kids today. Find the energetic guy sitting at a successful mid major who has ties to the AAU circuit and can recruit his tail off. Who that is remains to be seen.

Tom Izzo

This is like the 4th time Tom Izzo has been mentioned in this thread. The first couple of times I thought people were just trying to be funny, but now I'm thinking some of you are actually somewhat serious. My question for you: why the frick would Tom Izzo leave Michigan State for Alabama? Pipe dream.

Listened to Izzo's interview this morning on ESPN.He mentioned Alabama and his good friend Saban fondly several times during the interview. Now I believe he retires at Michigan State, but coaches have changed jobs for much less than what we could offer.... Why not make him a 2.5 million dollar offer and lets see if he wants to come down and work with his good friend in a much warmer and more beautiful State.... I want to see this program be at least what it was under Wimp

Battle to reciprocate the interest in Howland. Maybe that'll change.

well it's already a forgone conclusion that Battle didn't know what he was doing prior so I didnt expect it to chage.

Sorry if it's been covered, and I'm being lazy, but what's the story with Howland? Why has he been out of coaching?

Would be a huge paycut. He's the 2nd highest paid coach in the ncaa behind Coach K.

2. Tom Izzo
Michigan State

$3.4 million

Ben Howland, former UCLA coach: He took the Bruins to the Final Four twice, with a championship loss to Florida in the 2005-06 season and a semifinal loss to Memphis two years later. A source close to the UCLA program has told Tidesports.com that Howland is interested in the UA job, although he is likely interested in all head coaching openings as he has made it known that he wants to be coaching next season..

For whatever reason, people don't want him. I don't understand it. This guy has recruited and coached some of the best players in the NBA right now. Yes that was at UCLA and that is easier to recruit players to but you'd think that'd have some effect on recruits "I coached Kevin Love. I coached Russell Westbrook. Come to Bama and I'll coach you."

There appears to be some smoke about Tom Crean to Bama after the Tournament on the IU site

Wishful thinking from them. If it happens, a great hire for Battle.

I don't think any of the names thrown out there by us as fans are going to get the job. I don't know how much Jeff Goodman knows, but this is a good read about possible candidates:

Murray State coach Steve Prohm would be 'pretty darn good hire' for Alabama, ESPN reporter says
