Couple of years ago everyone on here argued against Howland, with a couple of exceptions. Now almost everyone wants him

I can't understand any Bama fan thinking Howland is beneath us. If you have the opportunity to hire a guy that's been to 3 Final Fours, you take it.

You are one of the two or three that wanted him. Many people on here were very much against him being hired. Maybe 2-3 more years of Grant has changed some attitudes

I'm still driving the Archie Miller bandwagon, but would be thrilled with Howland.

Pretty much my point, though I 100% think he would accept our job.

From Tidesports:

Ben Howland, former UCLA coach: He took the Bruins to the Final Four twice, with a championship loss to Florida in the 2005-06 season and a semifinal loss to Memphis two years later. A source close to the UCLA program has told Tidesports.com that Howland is interested in the UA job, although he is likely interested in all head coaching openings as he has made it known that he wants to be coaching next season..

Well throw the damn sink at him. Send Saban, Battle and the spirit of Mal Moore to get him.

Just imagine the hype if we get Howland or a Marsharll...definitely will derail the Pearl hype train at AU for the moment

Battle has to make Marshall and Howland say no before he thinks of anybody else. Would be thrilled with Mike White or Archie Miller though

I can't speak for others but just looking around college basketball and realizing the very low success rate of "hot" mid-major coaches with limited track records seems the reason people prefer someone like Howland.

Grant was almost unilaterally considered a home run hire at the time. When one rationally looks at his tenure at Alabama --all the extreme exaggerations of him being an "awful" or even "bad" coach aside-- he actually did better than a large percentage of hires with similar resumes.

It's just my two cents but I think it's influenced people to think more of coaches that have already proven they can win big over a longer period and not be as interested in coaches who have have taken over already solid mid-major programs and had a couple of good seasons.

Looking at Grant, and all around the country, it seems that keeping the ball rolling at a good mid major for a couple of seasons can be done by many "slightly above average" coaches and tells you little about how well they're going to be able to recruit at a program like Alabama.

Howland

Money will be right but we have to have someone comfortable living in Saban's shadow...and someone who will not play fast and loose with the NCAA....We need a miracle

Ben Howland
Larry Brown is at SMU right now, give him the number he wants and free reign of the bball program
Hasse at UAB just won the C-USA Tourney and got UAB in and only makes $475K/yr

That's where I'd start
