Saying it's a terrible hire is going way overboard. Hiring Pettway or a high school coach would be terrible. Hiring Crean would just be hiring a huge douche but a good recruiter and decent coach.

Why would we want a reject?

Is this not describing Grant other than added the douche part? How is that not a terrible hire?

Because he's actually experienced success. In Grant's career, he's won one game in the NCAA tournament.

Wasn't most his success based on a great player? I have not seen much out of him without said great player.

Grant was the best coach available when that hire was made. This year is much deeper. Prohm or crean being hired is just lazy.

a good recruiter

He really isn't though. He is losing out on nearly every highly regarded guy in the state over recent years.

He has brought in 2 very good recruits so far in Zeller and Blackmon. Blackmon would have gone to UK if it weren't for Aaron Harrison coming back to school and Booker already committed.

He got lucky with DWade. Only had offers from 3 schools because of academic issues. Oladipo was a 3 star guy. If you want to say he develops guys then I would maybe agree, but we don't know how much of that was him and not the player.

decent coach

Loses to a bunch of teams he shouldn't. Rode two top 5 NBA picks to only a sweet 16 appearance. Has a bunch of early exits in the tournament.

I agree with the Prohm part but not Crean. Do I think he'd be a homerun hire? No. But I think it's laughable to call it a terrible hire.

My dad is an Indiana fan, so I lived the Crean era. I might be biased. He doesn't even watch them anymore because it pisses him off too much. He just records them and score watches. If they win he goes back and watches.

I'm not arguing for him being a great coach, great hire, etc. I'm just saying he isn't terrible and I do think a definite upgrade over Grant.

At worst, yes.

If you were to say hey Bryant, what's your list look like? I'd say Howland then Marshall then Miller

then a guy like Crean

then Underwood

Then Prohm, Pitino, White

The hire would seemingly continue in the theme of just about everything from the past decade: average to maybe ever so slightly above.

We can't settle this time ,imo. If we do then we all need to accept that administration gives zero fricks about Basketball. Pearl is going to get shite turned around in Auburn fast and Haase is a damn good coach. We will end up third best program in our own state.

The fact that Battle thought Grant should of stayed lets me know he has no clue or doesn't care about basketball.
