Forbes ranked Bama as the 14th most valuable college basketball team in the country this year, with an 8.2 million dollar profit, in what was a down year... We can afford at least a top 20 coach

Forbes ranking

That is why Battle wanted to keep Grant. Grant wasn't rocking the boat and was making the school money.

Shows you that the end of the day Winning > $$$.

looking at the teams generating the most revenue, most all of them are shelling out 4 to 6 million a year in salary to their respective head coaches. If we want to move into the top ten, we need to pay a top ten salary

Do any of us honestly see that happening?

I hear what you are saying. We set a new standard when paying Saban. And it got us one of the best coaches money could buy. Our athletic department is operating at a gigantic surplus.. Why not try the same thing for basketball?
Obviously this only work to an extent. We have nowhere near the same history in basketball. So we aren't getting a Top 10 guy, but I'd like to see us make a GREAT coach say no.

Prohm's teams were routed every time they played a decent team.

I've thought the same thing as your first couple of sentences. If we pay enough to get a good enough coach, we will bring in the money. 15000 seats full for most home games will generate a lot of revenue. On top of that, when was the last time you saw something with Alabama Basketball on it in a store. Get people proud of the program and the money will begin to flow in.
So my approach is, set the standard in coaching salary in Basketball too, take the hear from the media, then laugh our way to the bank a few years later just like we did with football.

As someone posted on another board, we have to have the institutional will to be top ten in all sports. We have it in football and some of the minor sports. Some shortsighted leaders seem to wrongly be afraid that a top notch basketball and baseball program might somehow steal some thunder or maybe dollars from King Football. They want those two sports to be good, but not TOO good. Otherwise, we would make a commitment to them and not accept the mediocre results and facilities that they have been.

BTW, it looks like barring an 11th hour change of heart, Crean is our man for good or for bad. Here's hoping he recaptures the magic he had at Marquette! Roll Tide, Coach Crean, and an early welcome aboard.

Get Jeff Capel, and his assistants would be Antoine Pettway, TR Dunn and anyone else

The idea of Tom Crean coaching Bama has made me super depressed. My father is an IU fan, so I've been following Crean for a while. Dude is a clown.

What is your source or reasoning? You have 11 posts and most of them are claiming Crean to Bama. Not saying you're wrong just curious. Can't blame me for not taking what you say as fact.

Yeah but Crean actually makes sense considering he seems to be on his way out at IU

I agree. Offer him 500K more than Coach K gets. We have money and I believe a top 5 coach will more than make up for their high salary (ala Saban who would be a bargain at 10 million/year).
