Blake's mobility and escapability are terrific. Wish we could get a gif of him juking those two FAU defenders. His accuracy was very good also. His biggest problem right now is he isn't "the general" of the offense.

Coker was very nervous at first and was probably trying to do too much. But even after he settled down he still had a couple really bad throws. He overthrew Cam Sims (the tallest receiver we've got) by about a foot. I don't like his throwing motion but I don't think it's a problem. I liked the way he stands into his throws even when he's under pressure. Athleticism is very good but not as elusive as Sims.

We have two good quarterbacks, but I'm not sure if it's 1a, 1b or if it's 1,2

I think we've gotta remember that some of the mistakes Coker made, Sims made vs WVU. Then Sims looked a lot better in the next game. If Coker shows similar improvement next week, both QBs may go for 250 vs Southern Miss

No doubt Coker has a strong arm, but he isnt accurate. That is why it took him substantially longer to get the ball to the WRs on the bubble screens compared to Blake. He short arms/winds up on short throws because when he slings it, the ball is inaccurate.

This is sort of how I see it.

Sims is really accurate on the short stuff.
Coker is really accurate on the long stuff.

Then both are inaccurate at the stuff the other is accurate with.

Sims said it best. His strengths are Coker's weaknesses and vice versa.

Saban half implied we could continue to use both for more than just one more game. Don't really believe that, but it'd be interesting. And it'd get Coker much needed experience for next season.

This is what I'm worried about. There is literally no reason to respect Sims' arm at this point.

He's the best we have but I just don't see how he's going to lead us to a win against a tough defense.

In the past our defense was able to step up and make up for deficiencies at QB but this season I don't see that happening. This defense has glaring holes and we're going to need solid QB play to keep up in some of the games this season.

Hopefully they put it all together before SEC play.

I hope they don't. They will get burned.

What have you seen from him to make you think that?

I've never seen him throw a pass farther than 10-15 yards with any success.

Fun with numbers. Blake's stats right now:

35/46 (76.1%) for 464 yards (10.08 YPA) and 2 TDs with 1 INT

9 rushes for 56 yards (6.22 YPC) and a TD

If we play 15 games and he were to maintain his current averages (obviously he won't, but still fun to think about) he would have:

263/345 (76.2%) for 3,480 yards (10.08 YPA)
68 rushes for 423 yards (6.22 YPC)

Come on now. I realize he's been very productive so far but let's not act like screens to the sideline are going to carry us to a championship.

I saw him miss a bunch of receivers trying to throw downfield in the first game (and throw a pick on what I guess could be considered a downfield pass but was more like a short pass). I didn't see him attempt any such passes today but I admit I wasn't paying full attention after the game got out of hand. I don't remember him throwing any passes downfield before Coker came in today but I guess I could have missed it.

I thought you were trying to say he was throwing like a monster or something. My fault.

i wasnt trying to be a dick, but I just dont really remember him doing anything special today throwing deep. I remember him overthrowing Stewart, and underthrowing Cooper on the sidelines, and underthrowing another WR on a deep pass.

I didn't take what you said as dickish. If we can get a Sims/Coker vs FAU video I'm gonna break down all their passes to the best of my ability from the angle we are given. He did make some nice deep throws. That one to Coop late in the second and the one to Stardarius Stewart when he was getting pancaked by two defenders.

I didn't really see Coker being all that accurate either on a couple throws. There were a few times when the wide receivers could have made plays on his balls and derped it up. One was a touchdown bomb and the receiver tripped or something.

I still wasn't very impressed with Coker but the biggest problem with him was his game management at the end of the first half. It's inexcusable to take a sack instead of throwing that ball away with less than 10 seconds on the clock. I wouldn't have played him the rest of the game. Saban is obviously more forgiving than I am.
