Saban is know for second chances. See Pettway for example. He dont throw kids away after a first offense. But have to see how this plays out.

Pettway went to JUCO though, if CR gets a felony charge, he is gone to JUCO or something and then probably will jump to NFL. Maybe if there is some way the stolen firearm charge gets dropped or reduced and only misdemeanors, he may play latter part of season. I don't think there is hope for much more than that personally.

he not eligible for JUCO to play ball. He has played 2 years. He would have to sit out a year and do stuff to stay in shape.

When the felony charge gets reduced or dropped, one game suspension max. This isn't the NCAA suspending a player, it's the coaches decision. Why would he be suspended for more then one game if he is still on the team.
How many other Bama players that were still on the team, got more then a one game suspension for being arrested? Some didn't even get suspended, like Geno Smith and Cyrus Jones last year.

I don't remember Geno and Cyrus being caught with 2 bags of weed and handguns in a park that's known locally as a hangout for drug dealers/gangbangers.

Geno had a DUI, that is much worse then being arrested with drugs and handguns. Who doesn't own weed and a pistol these days.

I think they get a 4 game suspension even if this is pleaded down from felony charges. If it was me, they'd be dismissed from the team THE END.

A lot of you guys are overreacting to this whole situation. For all we know, he could have bought the gun without knowledge that it was stolen. Wouldn't be the first time. And if we're going to kick off every player who smokes weed, we might as well hold open tryouts this fall.

Saban:

quote:

BIRMINGHAM -- One day after two players were arrested in Louisiana, Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke to reporters at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am. And the first two questions he fielded were about the arrests.

Starting left tackle Cam Robinson and reserve safety Laurence Jones were arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of illegal possession of marijuana and illegal possession of firearm in Monroe, La., while Robinson, alone, was charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Since that event occurred, Saban has spoken to the duo but provided no update.

“I’ve talked to them, and there’s nothing really different on them,” Saban said before his 8:50 a.m. CT tee time at Greystone Golf and Country Club. “We’re still gathering information about the circumstance and the situation. We’ll figure out whether there’s something internally we need to do that’s appropriate relative to what the situation is.”

As a head football coach, Saban has had to deal with discipline in several forms. But has the Crimson Tide head coach, who is entering his 10th season in Tuscaloosa, and his theory on disciplined evolved over time?

“Look, I’m not gonna talk about that right now,” Saban said. “... We do it internally, it’s not something that we do publically and we’re not gonna do it today. If we can change their behavior based on what we do, that would be the purpose of discipline. Discipline is not necessarily just punishment, which a lot people view it that way.

“It’s how do you change somebody’s behavior so they have a better chance to be successful. That’s the way we’ve always one, that’s the way we try to do it, that’s the way I’d like to do it with my own children. I think that’s the way most parents would like to do it with their children.”

I don't know if I'm reading it right, but it sounds like we are "All In" on this one and keeping them on the team.

Sounds good to me. No point in hurting Cam football career anymore then he has already hurt it. Already cost himself a few million dollars next year.

As long as no murder, man slaughter, stealing, raping or other big-time crime was involved, I have no problem with them staying on the team; as long as they are punished for it.

I'm pretty sure it's the judicial systems job to punish people that break the law. It's the football coach job to punish players for breaking team rules.

It may not end up being Coach Saban's decision. The final decision to retain them as students at UA and athletes on the team will all hinge on how the charges shake out - felony or misdemeanor.

Basically, if they're not in jail, or kicked out of college for a felony, Saban will decide what to do.

In short, nothing has changed.

However, even if the felony sticks, they will almost guaranteed be granted youthful offender, which changes everything.
