Honestly, those things can all be true and it still not be some horrible scenario.
They would be a felony.

2006 Louisiana Laws - RS 14:69.1 — Illegal possession of stolen firearms §69.1. Illegal possession of stolen firearms A. Illegal possession of stolen firearms is the intentional possessing, procuring, receiving, or concealing of a firearm which has been the subject of any robbery or theft under circumstances which indicate that the offender knew or should have known that the firearm was the subject of a robbery or theft. B. Whoever commits the crime of illegal possession of firearms shall be punished as follows: (1) For a first offense, the penalty shall be imprisonment, with or without hard labor, for not less than one year nor more than five years. (2) For second and subsequent offenses, the penalty shall be imprisonment, with or without hard labor, for not less than two years nor more than ten years. Acts 2000, 1st Ex. Sess., No. 116, §1; Acts 2001, No. 403, §1, eff. June 15, 2001.
If the bolded portion cannot be proven, it's not a felony. The info at this time cannot prove the bolded portion. Therefore, I assume that no felony was committed until proven otherwise.

Per some Louisiana guys on the Rant that is old code and the new code has eliminated that portion of the law, basically taking out the "I didn't know" defense.
I don't know who is right.
I don't know who is right.

Well, in Alabama, to prove possession of stolen property, you have to prove the defendant knew or should have known. Doesn't make sense to charge somebody with possession of stolen property if they had no idea it was stolen.

That'd be good and well if this was in Alabama, but it's not. It's in crazy arse Napoleonic Code Louisiana.

There is no evidence that either player used the guns.
Again, that doesn't matter.
Then why did you ask me to address that specific issue?

Honest question - what parts of the story do you believe are up for interpretation/clarification?
- The weed existing in the car with the players?
- The guns existing in the car with the players?
- The use of either by the players?
- The guns being stolen?
I'm not being snarky, I'm honestly asking.

Will you quit talking in absolutes like you know something? You've already proved you're a mouth breathing retard. Anyway, if these charges are true, they should be kicked off.

The dumb thing is its not hard to buy a gun legally, you can get a deviant one for like 30 bucks, 50 bucks for a permit, you are good
I wonder about this all the time. Owning guns legally is pretty easy. Getting a CCL, if you're old enough, also easy. Not having it with you in a car full of weed, also easy. I think we need to start giving all freshmen a class called "Things You Think Are Illegal, but if You Follow the Rules are OK."

Chill out dude. People overreact when they first hear about something, like most people on here are doing. Give it a couple weeks and BOOM, it's like it never even happened. The felony charge will not stick.

I think you are partially wrong. It may not stick but it wont blow over and my guess is that NS will suspend them at least 2 games, if he does not kick them off the team.
What is hard to understand is that NS probably read the riot act to the team about doing the right thing during their 3 week break. And here we are less than halfway through and one stud and one wanna be stud are out after midnight chillin and smoking. Dammit idiots, but if you are going to do something stupid do it inside your home or inside a hotel room.

One thing that I know for certain. I'm avoiding the rant like it's an Ebola patient.

It might not stick, but it's not going to blow over. This is bad PR for the university. You probably only care about the football team though.

College students get arrested all the time, most of the time doesn't even make the news. Had this been some regular student, would it been bad PR for the school? Doubtful, no one would even know about it.

How do you know Cam didn't buy the gun legally?
Because the gun was stolen, everyone is assuming he bought it for $25 and an autographed T-shirt from some guy in the alley. He probably did, but he may well have paid fair market value for it and assumed it was a legit transaction. He may have even received it as a gift.
The fact is that if you buy a gun from a private seller - be it the guy from da' hood, from an ad you saw in the classifieds, or the guy you've gone to Sunday school with for the last 10 years, there's a chance that you're buying a stolen gun.
There are very legitimate reasons why someone can be in possession of a stolen gun and have no reason to suspect it was stolen. There just aren't enough facts available right now to determine Cam's situation.
Of course, now that I've said all this, he may have been the guy who stole it.....
